Anne’s House of Dreams is probably my least favorite in this series. I can’t give it more than three stars; if I’m 100% honest, and it wasn’t an Anne book, I’d probably bump it down to two stars. This is the most self-indulgent book of the series, and there are very few gems in the cast of characters. Plus, and this is completely silly I acknowledge, “the race that knows Joseph” doesn’t have the same ring as “kindred spirits”. So here we are, Anne is 25 […]
But I believe I rather like superstitious people. They lend color to life.
And we return to the Anne books with the fourth chronological novel, but the second to last one written and published. I actually got quite curious about the publishing history of this novel and so I did a bit of research and now I’m completely fascinated. There are all these tidbits of information, which have very to do with the book’s content but are just so interesting. Also of note, unlike the previous three books, I have only read this particular one a handful of times. […]
Reservations were supposed to be Prisons
This is a quick read, but no less powerful for the ease in which I read it. I had read the book previously, but when it was an option for our group read I will admit that I voted for it. I think it’s one of the more important books to come out in recent years. This book hits me pretty hard and is kind of difficult to talk about, but this is my attempt to do so. The first time I read this novel, I […]
Anne Goes to College
Once again, this is a book I have read and re-read countless times, with one caveat which I will explain further below. This is the third chronological book in this series and follows Anne through her time in college. It, like all the Anne books is a book I turn to when I need a comfortable read. Like most of the Anne books, there isn’t really much of plot for the book it is instead a series of interconnected stories that slip through the years […]
Another Return to a Beloved Favorite, with Surprise Toxic Masculinity
Anne of Avonlea is the follow up to Anne of Green Gables and the second book in Lucy Maud Montgomery’s most famous series. As with the first book, I have lost count of the number of times I have read and re-read this book. This series, in particular the first three books, have been favorites of mine since I received them as a Christmas present many, many years ago. That being said, this time the shine wore off a bit on this book and the […]
Literary Kindred Spirit
I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve re-read this book as it has been a favorite of mine for a long time. The book, and it’s follow up books, are classics for a reason. During a recent bout with insomnia I decided to pick it up again and was charmed all over again by Anne and her scrapes. The plot is quite well known, but just in case here it is. Mathew and Marilla Cuthbert, a pair of spinster siblings who run a […]
