I’m going back on forth on whether this is a two star or three star books. We’ll say two and a half and round up (I rounded down on Goodreads, cause I’m mean) It’s fine, I liked it better then Wicked, but there are a lot of problems and it’s mostly just meh. Except it’s also Oz, and guys, I love Oz. Let’s start with Oz; I’ve been in love with the Oz books for as long as I’ve been reading. I’ve only read the Baum books, though […]
I’m not actually sure O’Malley did much chess research
The Rook is an urban fantasy novel and was The Sword and Laser’s pick for December. It’s been on my TBR pile for a while, so this was the kick I needed to get started, and I found it extremely readable. The plot is paced quickly and the characters likeable. I’m looking forward to reading book two and kind of hoping there are more to come in the series. Myfanwy (rhymes with Tiffany) Thomas opens her eyes in the pouring rain with absolutely no memory […]
Time Travel and DINOSAURS
I am in a reading slump. I feel like I hit my double cannonball and then a wall. I keep starting books and putting them down after about a chapter or two. And the few that I have finished are ones I haven’t really wanted to write a review for. However, this was a gift from Lauri for the Cannonball Book Exchange and I would feel like a heel if I didn’t write a review saying just how much I liked this book. And I […]
CBR8 book exchange thank you Lauri
Thank you Lauri, this was waiting for me when I got home today. I had just finished battling traffic, made easier by the audio book and then this. What a lovely surprise. Love! And Livie says thanks for the box.
A Monster to Heal
The only thing I knew about this book when I picked it up was that there was a movie coming out (is already out?) based on it and I wanted to see said movie. So there I am, wasting time in the airport bookstore and I buy it on impulse because sometimes that is the only cure for cranky early morning flights. I then put it aside and mostly forgot about it for a week. I picked it up again last night and read it […]
20th Century Orphan Girls
I’m sure most of you are at least familiar with Pollyanna, if only from the 1960 Disney Movie staring Hayley Mills. Or if not from the movie then from the cultural icon that Pollyanna has become as the ever cheerful optimist. This is my second time through the novel, and while it isn’t a great novel it is comforting and a bit more complex then the archetype Pollyanna has become. Pollyanna is an orphan (and really what is it with early 20th century novels and […]
