Learned a lot!

The Cold War: A Very Short Introduction by Robert J. McMahon

February 21, 2024 by Marcella Leave a Comment

I was gifted this book after expressing interest in branching out into history as a subject to one of my friends. This was definitely a good way to begin getting into history. Not only is the Cold War itself very interesting, but the book was brief and very concise. It took me a full day of pretty much only reading to read this book, and at 164 pages it felt manageable, which helped to begin it. This book not only went over the Cold War, but […]

I don’t know how to find it for you, but if you can, read it

Preparatory Greek Course in English by William Cleaver Wilkinson

February 6, 2024 by Marcella Leave a Comment

This is a pretty self-explanatory book, at least I thought it would be. I picked this book up because the cover I own is incredibly pretty. I ended up staying for the writing. This book is about Greek literature, I think. It’s a little unclear on the purpose, and sometimes makes my eyes glaze over. It is a wonderful book though, especially the prose. The prose is amazing. It just makes me happy. I love a 19th century prose, and this is 1882, and a […]

Confusing, in a good way

The Reader by Traci Chee

January 19, 2024 by Marcella Leave a Comment

Sefia is the main character of this book, and we follow her journey throughout. As one does with the main characters. Her father was murdered when she was young, and is taken in by a family friend, Nin. Nin teaches her how to survive, and not just by following the law. Hunting and stealing are not about Sefia and Nin, which eventually leads to Nin being kidnapped. Sefia has no idea where to find her, or even begin searching. This was a good book, with […]

Definitely a… Creative approach, and a good one too

Several People Are Typing by Calvin Kasulke

January 16, 2024 by Marcella Leave a Comment

This book is set in a modern day workplace, specifically a PR company. The main character, Gerald, is an everyday office worker at the company, not too significant. One day, he is sucked into Slack. He has to learn to navigate his new world with no external stimulus. His productivity is through the roof, so no one argues with it. As he begins to panic and search for help, there seems to be more afoot in this company than just the PR disaster caused by […]

It remains a heartwarming story

The Wild Robot Escapes by Peter Brown

January 15, 2024 by Marcella Leave a Comment

This book is a sequel, set in the same world as the first one. (A future run by robots) It follows Roz again, this time as she is taken from her home and her son and put on a farm to work. She wishes to escape and return to her family on her island, but the two children who live on the farm discover her intentions before she can run. This book is truly adorable, and a good reminder of human compassion, especially in today’s […]

Nothing inspiring, but not horrible

Spark by Sarah Beth Durst

January 13, 2024 by Marcella Leave a Comment

This book was a high fantasy world in which the main focus is dragons. The setting is in this land surrounded by mountains, in which the weather is always perfect, because the dragons control it. Anything beyond the mountain range is the wildlands, in which everyone is bloodthirsty, and it’s not at all propaganda. Don’t think about it too much. I think the single best thing about this book was the level of immersion, the level that when you finish reading, you miss something so […]
