Of Wicked Blood

Sure it’s a cliched YA fantasy, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun

Of Wicked Blood by Olivia Wildenstein and Katie Hayoz

March 25, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

I’ve read and enjoyed Olivia Wildenstein’s books before, and the blurb for this one really caught my interest. It definitely lives up to it, as well! This is an enjoyable and high stakes young adult paranormal romance, all set in a small French town. Slate, professional thief and survivor of the foster care system, has always figured he was abandoned by his parents. So he’s shocked and angry to receive a letter – and birth certificate – claiming that he’s the only surviving member of […]

Winter's Orbit

Arranged marriage, murder and miscommunications – in SPAAAACE!

Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell

March 24, 2021 by llamareadsbooks 4 Comments

I have desperately wanted to read this book since I saw the cover and read the blurb. Arranged marriage? Political machinations? Murder? Yes, yes and yes. And wow, did this book live up to it! This is near my perfect mix of scifi and romance. The romantic relationship is center stage, but there’s also twisty political machinations and a murder mystery, all of which serve to give the couple more insight into each other. It’s tropey as heck – arranged marriage, “oh no, we have to […]

In Love & Pajamas

An adorably sweet relationship comic collection

In Love & Pajamas by Catana Chetwynd

March 21, 2021 by llamareadsbooks 1 Comment

While I enjoyed Catana Chetwynd’s first collection, it was a bit too cutesy for me. This one, however, struck a different chord with me. While it’s still pretty cutesy, it’s also a bit toned down and more about being an established couple. Plus, after 2020, who doesn’t need something pure and sweet? The general theme of the collection is being loved, weirdness and all, and for the most part, I found the comics charming and worth a giggle. I wouldn’t say they’re laugh-out-loud funny, and that’s […]

Hopeless Romantic

An emotional support rooster walks into a bar…

Hopeless Romantic by Marina Adair

March 20, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

I liked both Levi and Beckett from the last book, so I was very much looking forward to seeing them together. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out as well as I’d hoped. In order to talk about why the book didn’t work for me, there’s a lot of spoilers for the book below. “The only way to keep her world spinning was to maintain control of all the moving pieces. One wrong move, and it was checkmate.” Beckett and Levi have a lot of misconceptions about […]

Romeantically Challenged

When in Rome…

Romeantically Challenged by Marina Adair

March 19, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

After her fiancé breaks up with her (and decides to keep their original wedding appointments for the new love of his life, eek), Annie moves to Rome (Rhode Island) where she tries to accept that maybe she’s not meant to find her own romantic partner. Every guy she’s dated has somehow moved on to find their “one” while she’s still stuck alone. But she’s got an interesting job at the local hospital as well as a nice rental house – at least, until the owner […]

Time Travel for Love and Profit

Who would want to redo your freshman year of high school repeatedly?

Time Travel for Love and Profit by Sarah Lariviere

March 18, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

This book is weird, and not just in the way you expect a Groundhog-Day-esque time travel book to be. “Breakthroughs are great, don’t get me wrong; but admitting that there were epic flaws in your original idea is hella painful. I’ve decided that science is like a sausage factory. Major discoveries are delicious, but you don’t want to know what’s in there.” Nephele loves math. Frankly, she’s a genius. She knows that makes her weird and generally not like the other freshmen at her high […]
