“We were salt and sand and sea and storm”

Namesake by Adrienne Young

May 8, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

I’m still loving this YA pirate girl trend, so of course I was excited to get back to Fable’s world. Also, I adore how the covers form Fable’s face! This is the second in the duology, and can’t be read as a standalone, so this review will contain spoilers for the first book. “We were salt and sand and sea and storm. We were made in the Narrows.” At the end of the last book, things were finally looking up for Fable – and then […]

Yes & I Love You

“We’re all just falling apart in different ways.”

Yes & I Love You by Roni Loren

May 6, 2021 by llamareadsbooks 1 Comment

While I absolutely adored Roni Loren’s last series, given the cover of this book, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Considering that series was about the survivors of a school shooting, pretty much anything would be fluffier, but I was hoping it wouldn’t lose the heat level or angst. And while I was pleasantly surprised by how much of a rom-com it is, all the things I love about her books are still here. Hollyn is desperate to prove that she can survive on […]

Learned Reactions

“Because everything is better with you”

Learned Reactions by Jayce Ellis

May 4, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

I was a bit wishy-washy about the first book in this series, but I really enjoyed the author’s writing style and the characters, so I was interested in giving this next book a try, especially since it was a friends-to-lovers, fake relationship romance. This occurs concurrently with the first book in the series, so many events, like their coffee meetups, are now seen from Carlton’s POV. While it is the second in the series, it could easily be read as a standalone. Deion’s a philosophy professor […]

Learned Behaviors

Single dads enemies-to-lovers-ish romance

Learned Behaviors by Jayce Ellis

May 1, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

When I saw that cover with those two gorgeous men smiling at each other, I couldn’t resist picking this up. It’s also a workplace romance, which is trope I generally enjoy. I’m not sure I’d say this is enemies-to-lovers, but it’s definitely bordering on that: they’re not even sure they like each other as people but their chemistry is off the charts. Matt works for Bernhardt, a large department store, and the Kingsley design studio is set to do an exclusive line of home goods […]

Forever His Champion

“It feels like I gave up my arms to make way for wings.”

Forever His Champion by Marie Lipscomb

April 29, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

I’ve enjoyed following Natalie and Brandon through their travels and trials, but all good things must come to an end. This is the third book in the series, and the final book for Natalie and Brandon, so I wouldn’t recommend starting with this book. “But I was forced to choose between that life and Lady Natalie. I chose the woman I love, and I’ll never regret that decision. It feels like I gave up my arms to make way for wings.” Natalie and Brandon are […]

The Conductors

“Stories change with the tellers.”

The Conductors by Nicole Glover

April 27, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

I have wanted this book ever since I saw the cover on Twitter! And it matches the book so well – a strong heroine, lots of magic and an intriguing mystery plot. “Who are you?” she repeated. Curiosity bloomed in her eyes, overshadowing the fear. Hetty held out a hand to the girl, much as she’d done many times before, and said, “Someone here to help.” Hetty and her husband Benjy fell into investigating murders and similar cases because the police aren’t interested in what’s […]
