Good Neighbors

“I never had any idea how much one’s neighbors really can change one’s life.”

Good Neighbors by Stephanie Burgis

January 3, 2023 by llamareadsbooks 2 Comments

I’ve been a fan of Stephanie Burgis since Snowspelled. So much so that I’m a subscriber to her Patreon. So while I received all these stories as they came out there, I’m only now getting around to reading them. And just like I was expecting, they were the perfect cozy fantasy vibes for to get me out of my post-holiday blues! Good Neighbors (short story) “I bared my teeth up at him in a ferocious smile. “Of course,” I said sweetly, “I’d be delighted to […]

Book Exchange! Thank you Jenny S!

December 30, 2022 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

Funny story: I was told that one of the books would be arriving late but I actually got the delivery notice the day after the first was received… except I couldn’t find the package anywhere. One of my neighbors texted me to let me know they’d gotten a package for me…. except they’d already left on vacation! Last night they dropped it off and just as I suspected, it was the second book! Thank you so much, Jenny S! They’re both top of my TBR for […]

“It’s the waters within you that scare me.”

Witchful Thinking by Celestine Martin

November 13, 2022 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

CBR14Bingo – Time: Is it (finally) the right time for Lucy and Alex, aka the question every second chance romance ever asks? Its release also had an unusual timing – it’s clearly set during the summer and has a beach read feel, but was released just in time for Halloween vibes season. I don’t know what’s with the abundance of cozy witchy romances lately, but I am all here for it! Even with the witchy vibes, this is more of a beach read as it’s […]

Only Bad Options

Only mediocre-but-promising options

Only Bad Options by Jennifer Estep

November 10, 2022 by llamareadsbooks 1 Comment

CBR14Bingo – New: Though Jennifer Estep’s had a long and prolific writing career, this is the first book of hers that I’ve read. This popped up as a recommendation for me several times on Facebook and Amazon (apparently our AI overlords know that I love sci-fi romance!). So when I saw it was finally released, I couldn’t resist picking it up. While it’s overall a very enjoyable first addition to the series, there were also several things that didn’t quite work for me. Vesper works […]

Visible Mending

“I kind of like things that are imperfect.”

Visible Mending by M. Arbon

October 24, 2022 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

I very much enjoyed the first book in the Clover Hill series, so I was so excited to start the next one, especially when I saw it had a nonbinary crafty main character. While there’s not much overlap between the two books, it was still a joy to read a romance set in a very queer-friendly small town. Edd spends his days baking and delivering his desserts to his various friends in Clover Hill, or hanging out with his artist friends. He’s not much of […]

The Unbalancing

“The stars are people, and you do not fix people.”

The Unbalancing by R. B. Lemberg

October 20, 2022 by llamareadsbooks 1 Comment

CBR14Bingo – Bird: The supreme deity in this universe is the goddess Bird and some of her creation lore plays a large part in the book. There is no one else in the world that writes fantasy like R.B. Lemberg: lyrical, heartfelt, and queer, the kind of deeply thoughtful writing that leaves you pondering things long after you’ve finished the book. It’s a magical experience and one I look forward to every time, but one that’s also accessible for a new reader. So while this […]
