Dark Deeds

“Fiona Russell was hopefully going to be a lot less trouble.”

Dark Deeds by Michelle Diener

I very much enjoyed the first book in this series (AIs! Aliens! And a dash of romance!) so of course I immediately borrowed the next one. It’s both very similar and very different from the first book, but I still had a great time reading it. Grih battleship captain Hal is not having a good day. After pursuing a Krik raiding party onto a Garmman trading ship, they discover another human – though thankfully this one doesn’t seem to come with a Class 5 like […]

“Would he see me, or himself, or both of us, or neither of us?”

Book Boyfriend by Kris Ripper

April 27, 2022 by llamareadsbooks 4 Comments

First off, this cover is so eye-catching and gorgeous! I’ve read several of this author’s books before and was very interested in zir take on a friends-to-lovers romance. While this book wasn’t quite what I was expecting, it was a very fulfilling (and hilarious) romance. Preston’s been pining over his best friend Art since a drunken kiss in college. So when Art breaks up with their latest partner, of course Preston offers them a place to stay. But every time Preston imagines telling Art how […]

The Other Half of the Grave

“Weakness was fleeting. Vengeance was forever.”

The Other Side of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

April 26, 2022 by llamareadsbooks 3 Comments

I inhaled the Night Huntress series back in the summer of 2017, working my way through the seven books of the initial series as well as a bunch of spin-offs. I was absolutely entranced by the world Jeaniene Frost created and it quickly became one of my favorite paranormal romance stories. One of the things I really liked about the books was that (for the most part) the stories are told solely from the heroine’s first-person point of view. But of course I (and pretty […]

“Dealing with a crisis, wrapped in a disaster, surrounded by a mystery”

Dark Horse by Michelle Diener

April 25, 2022 by llamareadsbooks 1 Comment

I’m not usually a fan of alien abduction books, but I originally picked this up back in 2020 and it was absolute brain catnip. Watching these characters “dealing with a crisis, wrapped in a disaster, surrounded by a mystery” was ridiculously fun, so when I heard the final book in the series was coming out, I decided to dive back in and read the whole thing. Dav, captain of a Grih exploration ship, doesn’t know what to think when he encounters a Class 5 Tecran […]

“They say the storm has come, but to me, it feels like it’s only beginning.”

Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse

April 18, 2022 by llamareadsbooks 3 Comments

Black Sun (and its cover) was one of my favorite books of 2020. It’s no surprise that I’ve been eagerly anticipating the next book in the trilogy, though the lackluster cover definitely gave me pause. Luckily, the book itself, while most certainly a middle book, met my expectations. As you’d expect, this review contains spoilers for Black Sun. After the events at Convergence, the Watchers are dead and Tova remains in a twilight, liminal state. For Serapio, Naranpa, Xiala and Okoa, it’s not only their […]

She Gets the Girl

“Some things belong so much they could never break”

She Gets the Girl by Rachael Lippincott and Alyson Derrick

April 16, 2022 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

When I saw this was a sapphic enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, I jumped at the chance to read this book. And, even better, it’s set in Pittsburgh! And even more better, this is actually written by a married writing team, which is pretty darn cute. Starting college is the perfect chance to reinvent yourself, or at least that’s what Molly and Alex hope. After a bad start at a party, Alex realizes Molly is exactly what she needs. She’ll create a five step plan for Molly to get […]
