LanierHgts's Reviews:

Thank you Crystalclear!

December 7, 2021 by LanierHgts 5 Comments

From Bibliophile (Jr. Cannonballer who does not yet have her own account but will next year):  Thank you! When I opened the package and saw all the wonderful books my first reaction was “this is very exciting!” I have been wanting these books for a while and can’t wait to read them! I also really like the bookmarks – especially the ginko leaves. I have always liked the shape of these leaves and there is a ginko tree right outside of where I eat lunch. From […]

Book Exchange Win Again

November 30, 2021 by LanierHgts 3 Comments

I am so lucky yet again this year for the fab gift! Thank you FrancieNolan! I have not read Louise Penny, but am excited to do so! I was told that in reading them I will need to plan a Canadian vacation and also get some croissants to eat while I read.  Would you agree with this assessment? If so, I will get right on that! 🤣

Ponyboy is Still Gold

The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton

May 6, 2021 by LanierHgts 5 Comments

I first read this book when I was a teen and remember liking it. At the time I probably liked the movie more because it starred many of the teen-crush pack. I also remember being particularly struck that S.E. Hinton had to use her initials to publish so that people would not know she was a woman and discount her work. I came across this book again in a box of books I have been saving for my kids for when they became a bit […]

The snark is strong in this one

Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris

April 21, 2021 by LanierHgts 2 Comments

“How did you get out of the 90s without knowing who David Sedaris is?”  Such was the comment in a text conversation I had with fellow Cannonballer, Emmalita, when I mentioned I had just started this book.  A few days later, the text went like this: Me: “Really enjoying David Sedaris. Super snarky.” Emmalita: “Honestly, that’s why I was surprised you hadn’t read him yet. He is so up your alley.” And that exchange tells you a lot about the book. And also about me, […]

I hated this book and I could not stop reading it

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

March 1, 2021 by LanierHgts 8 Comments

When I was in high school I used to watch a lot of horror movies. I also used to go to any Halloween or county fair haunted house I came across. My favorite scary movie was “The Changeling” which involved a house haunted by the ghost of a boy who drowned there. I can’t remember the rest of the plot, but I do remember it scared the bejeezus out of me and yet I loved it. Fast forward many years later and you could not […]

Angry Men and the Women that Save Them: And They All Lived Happily Ever After and Had Many Children

The Duke and I by Julia Quinn

The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn

An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn

January 26, 2021 by LanierHgts 2 Comments

I am not a connoisseur of the romance genre but will occasionally pick up a book that I have seen recommended somewhere (or that is free for kindle).  With all of the Bridgerton hype on Netflix, I figured I would read some of the books before I delved into the show.  Also, I like historical fiction.  So I checked out of my local library the first three books in the series.  This review will cover all three books.  Warning: spoiler alert. I really liked these […]
