Spare Me Your Mercy by Sammon

February 8, 2021 by lahistoriadelmundo 1 Comment

My intent was not to read the this book. My original search was actually for an English version of Manner of Death, another book by the same author. Even though both books could be seen as a series, with Manner of Death being book 1, Spare Me Your Mercy was translated into English first. An English translation for Manner of Death is currently underway. Spare Me Your Mercy is a well done translation and although there are places were the grammar and wording catch the […]

Lost in Translation

TharnType Book 1 by Kuhn Mame

January 28, 2021 by lahistoriadelmundo Leave a Comment

A few months ago I stumbled across and ended up liking the Thai y series TharnType. After finishing the series I decided to read the book that it was based on. I may have had unreasonable expectations. Based on the popularity of the series I assumed a good translation would be created to satisfy fans. But assuming things only makes an ass out of u and me. This official translation is extremely hard to read. The grammar, the wording….all of it. I actually gave up and […]

Bury Me Fathoms Deep

December 31, 2017 by lahistoriadelmundo Leave a Comment

The Pirate of Fathoms Deep is book two in the Tales of the High Court series by LGBTQ author Megan Derr. At the conclusion of book one, The High King’s Golden Tongue, High King Sarrica and Prince Allen of Gaulden have overcome their differences, averted a war, gotten married, and throughly annoyed the High Commander of the Harken Empire, Lesto Arseni, along the way. Lesto answers to no one but the High King, and even then politeness is not guaranteed. Most men would think twice […]

Even Peacocks Have Their Uses

December 30, 2017 by lahistoriadelmundo Leave a Comment

Megan Derr is a LGBTQ writer of the whimsical variety. Most of her older works are short stories with fairytale themes. From there she expanded into novel and novellas of a similar motif. Her most recent works have moderns settings but still retain her love for happily ever afters. The High King’s Golden Tongue is a rewrite of an earlier short story with the same name. The plot does not change between the first version and the second but the added bits provide background and make […]

Tournament of Losers by Megan Derr

December 30, 2017 by lahistoriadelmundo Leave a Comment

I stumbled on the works of Megan Derr by accident one day while searching for fractured (or twisted) fairytales. Since then she has become one of my favorite authors. In that first weekend alone I probably purchased and read 4 or 5 of her fractured fairytales and fairytale like short stories. Tournament of Losers falls into this category but is a fully flushed out story. In Tournament of Losers the main character, Rathatayen (please call me Rath) needs to pay off his father’s debt. The […]
