I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too!

A wilderness thriller

Hollow Beasts (Jodi Luna #1) by Alisa Lynn Valdes

April 27, 2023 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This book is called a “wilderness thriller”. It sounds like a weird category, but it really describes the vibe of this book! Jodi Luna is our main character. I like her name. I have a really hard time connecting with a character if they have a dumb name. That’s probably really shallow on my part, but what can you do? Jodi basically quit her cozy life being a published poet in the city of Boston to return to the wilds of New Mexico where she […]

This book was soooooo sad I couldn’t finish it

Cilka's Journey (The Tattooist of Auschwitz #2) by Heather Morris

April 27, 2023 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This book was so intensely heartbreaking. At one point I was listening to it walking around my neighborhood park sobbing. There are some less terrible moments, but they’re followed up with unending sadness and despair. My best friend recommended it to me, and it really is a well written book. I could not finish it though because it made me so freaking sad. She told me it was worth it and I should give it another try, so we’ll see if it makes it back […]

What if you lost 7 years of your life overnight?

Do You Remember by Freida McFadden

April 27, 2023 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

We’re first introduced to the main character Tess on the eve of her engagement to her boyfriend Harry, who she had been living with for a while. They have some celebratory drinks and fall asleep. Unfortunately, Tess wakes up like 10 years later with no memory of what happened in between.   Her “husband” is next to her in bed and tries to comfort her. It turned out she was in a bad car accident and had a head injury. They start every day like […]

How much does your maid see?

The Maid's Diary by Loreth Anne White

April 27, 2023 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Two friends and I started a virtual book club. We decided to start with our Kindle Free Reads (totally not what it’s called, but I can’t remember right now!). This was the free book for February I think?   The main character is a maid named Kit. Her life seems pretty fine at the start, aside from not having a lot of money. She does have this problem where she snoops around in the homes of her wealthy clients though. She has a best friend […]

Would you defend your cheating husband for murder?

The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose

April 27, 2023 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Ooh this is another actual physical book I read! This one was even better than the other one. Sarah Morgan is the main character. She’s a successful partner at a law firm at 33. She’s also beautiful and rich and smart with a handsome and loving husband. He’s a writer and he spends most of his time at their cabin in the woods. Sarah bought it as a vacation house for the two of them, but he spends most of his time there alone. Or […]

A whole bunch of Enola Holmes!

The Case of the Bizarre Bouquets (Enola Holmes #3) by Nancy Springer

The Case of the Left-Handed Lady (Enola Holmes #2) by Nancy Springer

The Case of the Peculiar Pink Fan (Enola Holmes #4) by Nancy Springer

The Case of the Cryptic Crinoline (Enola Holmes #5) by Nancy Springer

Enola Holmes and the Boy in Buttons (Enola Holmes #6.5) by Nancy Springer

April 27, 2023 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Somehow, I read book three in the Enola Holmes series before book two. I feel like it’s been a long time since I did that! (I used to accidentally do it all the time somehow) Anyway, Enola is still in hiding from her meddling brothers who just want to make a lady out of her. She super does not want to be made a lady. I’m fully taken in by the character of Enola Holmes. It’s so hard for me to envision a world where […]
