I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too!

Mind reading, terrorists, politics, and the Oscars

April 4, 2015 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This book is a continuation of Mind’s Eye.  I read the first book while I was on vacation in Italy for a friend’s wedding, so thinking about it gives me the happy feels.  In Mind’s Eye, we learn that a marine biologist named Nick Hall, along with 23 other people who were working with him on his ship were kidnapped at sea by a pretty crazy dude.  The crazy dude experimented on all of them to try and perfect brain implants for mental internet surfing. […]

A welcome change for Lucas

March 25, 2015 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Silent Prey: I finished this book earlier in the month and pretty much forgot about it.  I knew I had finished two books before Winter Prey, but for the life of me I couldn’t remember what the other one was (besides The Gemini Effect).  That’s not a good sign for a book.  I think I was just sick of the bad guy in this one.  He was Bekker, continued from Eyes of Prey.  I was nearly sick of him in that book, and then he […]

A little more apocalyptic than I was expecting

March 25, 2015 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

So this was another free Kindle book.  They’ve been hit or miss.  This one was mostly a hit.  I say mostly because I think it was a little bit too short.  It felt like they tried to jam an entire apocalypse into a too-small book.  I loved the story, I loved the idea of where the apocalypse was coming from, and I loved the creatures.  The characters were almost great, but they too suffered from a little bit of rushing/smooshing. The story begins when a […]

Animal Rights Activists?

March 3, 2015 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I’m  not sure how the collaboration worked between these two authors, but I really like the writing style.  You get immediately thrown into the action. I like all of the characters too.  There’s a big bad company doing (super illegal) experiments on animals, and we learn later, humans too.  The story begins with a lab breakout of the animals by an animal rights group.  They soon fade into the background though as the techie guy’s sister tries to find him after he participated in the […]

He can see the women before they’re dead

February 15, 2015 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

So the murderer in this book is a sicko.  He tortured and killed his wife thirty years ago, and she apparently haunts him around the summer solstice.  He’s part of a cult that follows the teachings from a book that a dude decided to make up one year.  It’s supposed to be based on ancient Mayan rituals, but literally, a guy made it up.  So this sicko somehow figured out that if he murders a woman, surgically removes her heart, and eats it, his dead […]

Based on a semi-true story?

February 4, 2015 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

They had me right up until the last few chapters.  In the beginning, you fall in love with the characters.  Grand pere is the loving grandfather, protecting his granddaughter.  Adrienne is the main character (the granddaughter), a four year old when we meet her.  Her mother is young and beautiful, and not too interested in being a mother, but don’t worry – Adrienne has a nanny named Lucie who cares about her more than her real mother.  And then there’s the nearly comically evil aunt […]
