So Lucas Davenport is back for another exciting adventure. It all starts out with a bank robbery executed by two women. During the escape, Lucas is involved with the shooting of the two women. The husband of one of the women (who is actually the brother of the other woman) breaks out of prison and plots his revenge against the police and Lucas. The rest of the story is a cat and mouse game between the escaped convict (and his super mean friends) bent on […]
Super creepy and engrossing
This book reminded me of my favorite horror movie – The Descent. It’s dark and claustrophobic right from the beginning, and then it just gets worse when the monster appears. Four old college friends start out on a “holiday” through the woods of Sweden. They’re all just looking for a good time and to reconnect with each other. From the beginning, Luke is left out. The other three guys are married, have money, and own their houses. Luke is single, and has a dog. Tensions […]
Kid get kidnapped in this one – be wary
Book 7 of the Prey series grabbed me right from the beginning and pulled me in. I finished it in one day, even though it was 300 something pages. The killer, John is the youngest killer Lucas has dealt with so far. He’s about 25, and met his psychiatrist when he was in prison for arson. He became obsessed with her for a while, but eventually forgot about her. Something triggered his memory of her, and ten years after meeting her, he kidnaps her and […]
This killer uses poetry to pick up women – reinforcing the idea that poetry is bad for you
This book is number 6 in the Lucas Davenport Prey series. I liked it well enough. Unfortunately a dog gets killed (not graphically) at one point, and I have a really hard time with animals getting hurt or killed. I know it’s not real, and I have no problem reading about (most) people getting killed, but it stuck with me. Probably because I read in my bed or on the couch surrounded by my dogs. Anyway… The major difference in Lucas in this book […]
I started this book last month and brought it back to the library on chapter 2. Not a good sign
OK, so I’ve been reading Harry Hole books for a while now. I’m definitely into the characters, and into Harry’s life. I think this book just wore on me a little bit because it feels like Harry keeps making the same mistakes over and over again. I’m guessing that’s why it took me so long to finish this book. Like the title suggests, I brought it back to the library after only getting through 2 chapters. I did however, take it out again and finish […]
They’re trying to find the possibly mythical queen of Sheba
I think I liked this book? I know that’s not quite a ringing endorsement. It was really interesting, I just think that sometimes there was too much going on. The story switched between three separate sets of people. The first was an undercover spy named Omar trying to figure out who was behind some antiquity smuggling. The second was a grad student named Jade writing a thesis about the Queen of Sheba. The third story was the actual Queen of Sheba’s tale in 960 BC. […]
