I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too!

George asked her to write a ghost story

February 21, 2016 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This book was written by Gillian Flynn, who you might all know from writing that book that nobody read, “Gone Girl”.  JK, I’m pretty sure everyone read it.  She actually wrote this book because George R.R. Martin (author of those other books that nobody read – A Song of Ice and Fire) asked her to write a ghost story.  It’s really short.  I think I read it in about an hour, which was pretty awesome. We originally get introduced to the main character as a […]

I randomly got this book from my neighbor

February 21, 2016 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I got this book from my neighbor, who is an old lady.  So I didn’t have much hope for it being a great book.  However… I really liked it!  Newsflash – old ladies like good books too!  I guess I’m an ageist. The book takes place somewhere in the UK.  It starts out as a really sad story of a kid (Stevie) whose uncle was kidnapped and murdered.  His mom and grandmom basically ignore him most of the time.  The rest of the time, they’re […]

How far would you go to save your sister? I’d go very very far.

January 8, 2016 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Ok, so I read this book in 2 days.  It was fantastic.  The subject matter couldn’t have been more up my alley – crime drama / sisterly love / another woman / corruption.  This was one of those books I couldn’t put down. It all starts out with a beloved (by the whole town) coach’s grisly death.  Jody – the sister of Anna (who is the main character in this series – which I didn’t even know was a series) is accused of killing him, […]

Where do I even start with IT?

December 31, 2015 by kfishgirl 2 Comments

I never had any desire to read this book.  However, a friend recommended it to me, and then I couldn’t resist.  It’s super long.  It took me about two months to read, and I only read it at night before going to bed.  It was NOT a good bedtime story.  I don’t think I had many nightmares though. My problem with Stephen King has always been his extreme attention to detail.  His books are mostly all long.  However, this book really needed to be long! […]

Secret society stuff – kinda nightmarish

December 31, 2015 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Let me just start out by saying that this is book 1 of a trilogy.  However, the other two books aren’t released yet, so hold your horses.  The minute I was done with this book, I searched for the rest of its friends.  I was happy to learn that there were more books coming.  I was sad to learn that I’d have to wait for them!!!  This is the first book I’ve read by PJ Manney.  I don’t think it’ll be the last. Right away, […]

Ebola and Hendra and Malaria oh my!

December 31, 2015 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

How could you not be pulled in by that cover?  When I first saw it, I knew it was for me.  I’m a bit of a science nerd, and viruses, plagues, and bacteria really do it for me.  I’ve read a bunch of Ebola books, and there is no shortage of Ebola details in this book.  One warning though – it’s long.  It took me a while to read, and I had to take it out of the library multiple times. David Quamen did years […]
