I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too!

The real book 3 in the Anna Curtis series (I apparently started at book 4 – so confusing)

April 19, 2016 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This book continues Anna & Jack’s relationship. They’re engaged, & ready to combine their lives. On the night they actually get engaged, a brothel bust goes terribly wrong. Two people get killed, & we’re introduced to MS-13, the Salvadoran street gang. Their motto is rape, torture, kill (or something along those lines). The acknowledgements at the end of the book note that although the story is fiction, the cases are based on real gang cases in D.C., & obviously MS-13 is a real gang. The […]

Anna Curtis is back for more. More murder that is.

April 10, 2016 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Ok so in book 1, (which I reviewed recently), Anna falls for a sleazy defense attorney, and things go bad.  By the end, she’s with the homicide chief attorney.  In book 2 (this one), she’s happily domesticated with the homicide chief attorney (he has an actual title, but I really can’t remember it).  She’s also back to work a high profile murder case of an escort who was pushed off the balcony of a senator/congressman (shame on me, I don’t know the difference). I’m not […]

It was one of the most reviewed books of CBR7, so I decided I had to read it

March 31, 2016 by kfishgirl 1 Comment

So this is a different kind of post-apocalyptic book than I’m used to.  I’m not sure I even knew it was post-apocalyptic until I really got into it.  Usually that’s a book’s selling point to me, but I really don’t think I knew with this one!  I read this book because it was the most reviewed book of CBR7 (or at least one of the top ones).  I knew my fellow Pajibans wouldn’t let me down.  I really did like it a lot. Station Eleven […]

My tapeworm tells me what to do

March 28, 2016 by kfishgirl 1 Comment

FYI – doing a search for “Parasite” on Amazon brings up some really weird choices:    and  Am I not properly cleansing myself of intestinal worms?  It freaked me out a little bit.  Anyway… the book: I really liked this book. I had read a sample of this book a while ago from Amazon. I was so interested, but since I read so many books, I’m kind of a cheap-o. Enter my library! I was so excited when I saw they had this book. I […]

There was a missing girl ten years ago…

March 21, 2016 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I was at least 3/4 of the way through this book before I found out what “the short drop” was.  One of the characters described it as a really slow way to kill someone by hanging, while allowing about an inch of space between their feet and a stool.  They basically have to stand on their toes, and when they get tired, they’ll slowly suffocate themselves.  I found it fascinating.  I didn’t even know that I needed to know what the short drop was! Anyway, […]

Melanie makes you love her, even if she maybe wants to eat you

March 21, 2016 by kfishgirl 2 Comments

This story is about a military outpost in post-apocalyptic England.  You don’t really get all the details right away, so I won’t ruin it.  I can say that it’s a “zombie” story, but I put zombie in quotes because it’s not your regular zombie story. I’m listening to this audiobook in my car, and I’ve never wanted to drive places more than now!  I can’t stop listening.  I’ve ended up parked outside my house just finishing listening to a chapter multiple times.  I’m keeping notes […]
