So this is my second kidnapping book of the month. What does that say about me? It can’t be anything good! Actually I think I had this book on my Kindle since last year. I have a tendency to download lots of samples of Kindle books, so sometimes I lose track of the real books I have downloaded. Anyway… I liked this book. I guess anything with a suspenseful plot keeps me interested. The gist of the story is this: a girl got kidnapped with […]
I laid in bed and finished this book so I didn’t have to watch the election results
I started this book last week, and I liked it immediately. Unfortunately, it was my bedtime book, so I frequently fell asleep, or nearly fell asleep while reading it, so I didn’t get very far. It’s one of those books that grabs hold of you though! I just read it for over an hour and a half tonight so that I didn’t have to watch the election results coming in. It actually took my mind off the anxiety for a while. Anyway, the story is […]
I remember Ta-Nehisi Coates from the NPR show Tell Me More
I lived in the Philly suburbs a few years ago, so WHYY was my source for NPR radio shows. When I first moved down there, and for 3 full years, I worked second shift. I got to hear radio shows that played in the middle of the day. Tell Me More was one of my favorites. I don’t know what it says about me (I’m oblivious?) that for years I never realized that it was about/by African Americans. I guess it was the power of […]
The Variants are evolving, breeding, speaking, kidnapping…… not good
I searched Google for baby armadillo, because that’s how I’m picturing the Variant kids in my head. Baby armadillos are so effing cute, and not at all terrifying though, so my brain is wrong: The juveniles have evolved to be able to shoot venom from inside their armor-y bodies. Anyway, the juvenile Variants are bad news. The big ones aren’t slouches either though! With the help of human “collaborators”, Plum Island is attacked, and a bunch of cool people that we like are kidnapped. The […]
How much of you can fall off before something important is lost?
OK I swear I got the recommendation to read this book from my fellow CBR 8 readers. I can’t seem to find it again on this site though! Anyway, whoever recommended it to me (it had to be someone?), thanks! It’s definitely a mind hump (I didn’t want to use the F word). Here are my favorite things in books: an unreliable narrator, apocalyptic / post apocalyptic / dystopian worlds, and being in suspense. This book had 2 out of 3 (there was no apocalypse). […]
I stole this book off my mom’s shelf because it looked small! The smallest book I’ve read for CBR 8 turned out to be my longest review!
I’m a little bit behind on my book reading, so I found a short book. The book has you instantly immersed in the world of the story. I guess since this book is so short, I basically live-reviewed it. So, SPOILERS ahead matey! We start out with a young shepherd boy in Spain. He’s reminiscing about his wandering lifestyle, and how his father supported it. He met a girl that he can’t stop thinking about, and he’s having a dream analyzed. A little girl plays […]
