I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too!

Tell ’em a hookah-smoking caterpillar has given you the call

Ok so this is book 4, and I’m still super confused. Alice and the Pillar are working together again to save the world. But the Pillar (the hookah smoking caterpillar / insane serial killer) has ulterior motives. I really have no idea what they are. Even when it seems like he’s screwing over Alice, he’s usually saving her. He’s not a good guy, but he doesn’t really seem to be a bad guy either? I don’t know. Anyway, there’s a plague sweeping the world. Everyone […]

I somehow accidently read another ghost story – this one was better though!

February 25, 2017 by kfishgirl 1 Comment

Ok, so when I was searching for this book on Amazon to add in the link and the picture, I found something a little creepy.  This author has a cute / slightly haunted / lost looking girl on all of her book covers: I immediately thought “did I put in the wrong book title?”, or “does this book have alternate titles?”.  I obviously haven’t read any of the other books, but now I might!  I don’t know what that says about me? This was another […]

Go ask Alice, when she’s ten feet tall. And if you go chasing rabbits, and you know you’re going to fall…

OK so this was another weird one.  Kids around England have their heads chopped off and stuffed into watermelons.  The Muffin Man turns out to be the killer, and he’s got some kind of social commentary about fat, sugar, and salt?  The question mark denotes my confusion.  There are puzzles to solve, but I (and Alice) don’t know what’s real, and what’s imagined.  At some points Alice wakes up crippled in the asylum, but neither of us know if that’s her reality, or if the […]

Ever wonder how your life could’ve been different if you made different choices?

February 16, 2017 by kfishgirl 2 Comments

Ok, so my lovely little library in NEPA had this as an audiobook too!  That’s apparently my new thing for CBR9.  I will let other people read me books at times where it is unsafe for me to read them to myself (whilst driving, in the shower, treadmilling, etc.).  I use the Overdrive app on my phone, so my books travel with me always.  It’s rad.  I believe I’ve raved about it for earlier books (The Stand, which was 47 hours would’ve been unreadable for […]

Ghost Murder story? Or Murder Ghost story?

February 7, 2017 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

The beginning of this book pulls you in, because it starts with a letter that the murderer sent to true crime writer Lucas.  Jeff (the murderer) tells Lucas that if he moves across the country (from NY to WA) and rents the house where 10 people died in the 80’s, he’ll grant him interviews.  It’s a big deal because Jeff never talked about the crimes.  We then go to Lucas and his wife fighting about the move.  His wife is cheating on him, and basically […]

Maybe don’t read this one alone in the dark?

January 31, 2017 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

So our leading lady, Leonora is out of the blue invited to an old friend’s bachelorette party.  Only we’re in England, so it’s called a hen party.  Or a hen do?  Something henny.  Anyway, she hasn’t talked to Clare (the hen / bride) in nearly a decade.  She’s not really sure why she’s invited, but she asks another friend to go too (she’s also invited).  The house they end up at is in the woods, and kinda creepy.  Leonora is called Lee, Nora, and Leo, […]
