I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too!

I really wanted to like this, but…

So this book was suggested to me by someone (I think here in one of my other zombie book reviews, or maybe over on Pajiba).  I bought the audiobook from Amazon, and started listening to it a few weeks ago when my carpool partner was away for two weeks.  Like I said in my title – I really wanted to like it.  Unfortunately, it never really grabbed me.  The idea was solid, and I don’t know if it was just the writing style, or the […]

Do you want to kill yourself? Laura will listen!

May 24, 2018 by kfishgirl 1 Comment

Laura works at a suicide helpline called End of the Line.  They’re supposed to offer comfort and support and listen to people who are depressed and contemplating suicide.  They’re not necessarily supposed to talk people out of killing themselves, but they are supposed to offer them some positive options and words.  Laura just realllly likes to hear people die.  Like to the point where she basically talks people into killing themselves while she’s on the phone with them to hear them die. Laura keeps the […]

The kids are all right

May 24, 2018 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

So this is book 2 of the Darkest Minds trilogy.  We saw at the end of the first book that Ruby went back to the Children’s League to protect Liam and to save Chubs’ life.  She’s joined a team, and they go on missions and ops and try to fight against the president. Ruby actually does learn a lot from her training.  She becomes a better fighter, and she’s learning how to better control her powers.  However, they’re basically making her torture people for information […]

Livia continues to be scary

May 24, 2018 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Livia gets a visit from a man in Homeland Security who is kinda offering her a job.  But because she is who she is, she can’t just say yes, even though she wants to.  She talks him into letting her go to Asia for a little recon before she will accept.  Livia wants to see if she can finish what she started in the first book, which is basically torturing and murdering everyone involved with her and her sister’s sex trafficking.  She also thinks that […]

Livia is kinda super scary

May 10, 2018 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I think I downloaded this book a long time ago and somehow forgot about it?  I have so many Kindle books that I lose track of them regularly.  I think that’s probably a good problem to have. The way we start this story is from the perspective of a would be (and previous) rapist.  He’s eyeing up his next target at a bar, and she seems like a sure thing.  The whole time I was reading it, I was thinking “Holy crap, this better get […]

These kids are much tougher than I ever would be

May 10, 2018 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Any time I see a trailer for a movie that is also a book, I usually rush out and read the book.  I saw the trailer for this movie, and I knew I was headed to the library. They gist of these books (there are three, so you know I’ll be reading all three!) is that all children in the world either die of a brain disease (horribly), or they have unusual powers. The change usually comes around age ten for all of the children.  […]
