I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too!

OK I may have over-estimated Odd Thomas filling the Bosch void in my life

Forever Odd (Odd Thomas #2) by Dean Koontz

Brother Odd (Odd Thomas #3) by Dean Koontz

April 26, 2022 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I had a great reaction to the first Odd Thomas book.  I did not love this book.  By the end of the book I was listening to the audiobook at like 1.6x.  This is pretty fast.  I basically hated it and wanted it to be over! At the start of this book Odd is awoken by his recently dead neighbor, who is a doctor with a stepson Odd’s age.  The son is missing, and the rest of the book is basically Odd trying to find […]

A cool collaboration of thriller writers and characters

Face Off by David Baldacci

April 26, 2022 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This is the second collaboration audiobook I’ve borrowed and read from my library.  I got into it because of my buddy Michael Connelly.  If you read my previous review that I just posted, you’ll know that maybe he’s not my buddy after all, but Harry Bosch is.  Conveniently, Harry is in this book! The wording on Goodreads calls this “an unprecedented collaboration”, which sounds very grand.  I didn’t really get it until I looked at all the authors involved and listened to the intro.  Apparently […]

I’m starting to believe that I just love Harry Bosch, not necessarily Michael Connelly?

Chasing the Dime by Michael Connelly

April 26, 2022 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This book isn’t my first non-Bosch based Michael Connelly book, but my second.  I think I read the first one last year (Void Moon) when I wasn’t actually participating in CBR.  Unfortunately, I didn’t like that one either!  I think I just love the characters in the Bosch books, including the character of Los Angeles.  Anyone who says that LA isn’t a character hasn’t read a Bosch book. Anyway, this book is about a guy who’s doing some kind of AI / tech / computery […]

A new series to fill the Harry Bosch shaped hole in my heart

Odd Thomas (Odd Thomas #1) by Dean Koontz

April 12, 2022 by kfishgirl 1 Comment

I stumbled onto this book like I stumble onto many books.  I was searching for a new audiobook on my library app, and I searched “available now” and either “horror” or “mystery”, I can’t remember.  I usually try both, and sometimes “thriller” too.  It’s taken me to some cool books, and occasionally some clunkers. Anyway, like my title states, I needed a new series!!  I’ve read EVERY AVAILABLE HARRY BOSCH book, so I need a new mystery solving man in my life.  Odd Thomas is […]

A classic mystery that I apparently read twice?

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

April 12, 2022 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Goodreads tells me I read this book back in 2020.  I don’t remember reading it then, but I definitely read a version of it, because the setting and plot were familiar.  I think it was a modern retelling by a different author.  Goodreads tells me it might be In the Dark by Loreth Ann White.  I remember some of the names were the same, but the location was different.  I think there was a plane that fell in the water?  And then there was a […]

I read this book twice

To Be Taught, if Fortunate by Becky Chambers

March 30, 2022 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I downloaded this audiobook from my library.  I remember thinking “Ooh, I wanted to read this book.”  I think I made it through the first sentence before I said to myself “Ooh, I already read this book.”  I really didn’t remember most of it though.  Thankfully it was just as good the second time around!  It’s also a short book, so it was nice to read after Dune, which took me almost two weeks to finish.  I think this audiobook was around 4 or 5 […]
