I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too!

A father has to take matters into his own hands after a shocking tragedy

What Happened to the Bennetts by Lisa Scottoline

December 30, 2022 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This book was a recommendation from my sister. I listened to the audiobook, which was great. It starts out with a bang and only has a few small slow spots in the middle before the intense ending. I don’t think this is a spoiler, because it happens in the very beginning – the Bennett family is the victim of an attempted carjacking. The worst happens and their daughter is shot by the bad guys. It’s heartbreaking, obviously because it’s a young girl who tragically dies, […]

Basically a digital scrapbook murder mystery

These Toxic Things by Rachel Howzell Hall

December 30, 2022 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I’m just going to start this one by saying that my review is full of spoilers. I don’t know how to talk about this book without ruining it! I’m not sure if anyone reading this review wants to read the book, so I’ll do a little intro, then move onto the spoilers with plenty of warning. The main character is a young woman named Mickie Lambert. I had a realllly hard time connecting to her. She’s in her early 20’s living above her parent’s garage. […]

This one was hard, but ultimately a worthy read

No One Crosses the Wolf: A Memoir by Lisa Nikolidakis

December 30, 2022 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Wow, this book was a hard read. The author Lisa Nikolidakis grew up Greek with a capital G. She spent her life trying to please her father and keep her family together. She suffered physical and mental abuse, violence, threats of violence, and a constant sense of impending doom. She tells stories of the magnitude of abuse throughout the book. Some of it is small – a slight here or there, favoritism, mild neglect, etc. It travels all the way to abuse of herself and […]

Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel

November 26, 2022 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I don’t think I’ve read one of Emily St. John Mandel’s books in a while. I forgot how much I liked her. I just randomly downloaded the Audible app and signed into my sister’s Audible account the other day. It’s actually my Amazon account, so it was really easy to do, and don’t worry – I had her permission. I can’t imagine that she bought this book though. I think maybe I got it at some point for free? Or as a bonus for something? […]

Bonus books after my Cannonball! A short Margaret Atwood story

My Evil Mother by Margaret Atwood

November 26, 2022 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This is apparently an Amazon Original Story, whatever that means? I knew that it was free and it was a short one, that’s for sure. I’ve read a bunch of Margaret Atwood’s books, so I thought I’d give this one a try, since it was only an hour long. I basically only read kindle books and audiobooks, so my books are measured in hours, not pages! Our main character is fifteen and growing up in the fifties with a mother who basically claims she’s a […]

I forgot Dean Koontz was a little weird

The Other Emily by Dean Koontz

November 26, 2022 by kfishgirl 2 Comments

OK somehow I read that book where the guys moves in and out of different worlds and there are copies of him (no idea what the title is – I just found it. It’s Dark Matter by BLAKE CROUCH! Totally not Dean Koontz, silly me), and all the Odd Thomas books by Dean Koontz and forgot that he’s a little into science fiction! I was like “ooh this looks like a good psychological thriller”, when I should’ve been thinking “ooh what crazy space / […]
