Enemies to Lovers Done Wrong and Done Right

How to End a Love Story by Yulin Kuang

Guava Flavored Lies by J J Arias

October 25, 2024 by jessisreading Leave a Comment

I started listening to two audiobooks in the same day. One was on the way to work, the other on the way back. Why? Because the 25 minutes on the way to work was enough of How to End a Love Story for a lifetime. I had high hopes for this story touted as an angsty enemies-to-lovers story that would make any reader cry. I love me some angst, and will feel plenty of those tearful emotions in my heart. And of course, enemies-to-lovers is my favorite. […]

Disney Reimagined for Grown-Ups

Tangled Up in You by Christina Lauren

If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy

October 9, 2024 by jessisreading 1 Comment

The first Meant To Be book I ever got was If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy. That’s because it was the first Meant To Be book at all, and as a religious reader of the Twisted Tales, I was curious what an adult contemporary line from Disney would look like. Of course, like many other things, it fell behind, and it wasn’t until a year or so later that I actually picked up a Meant To Be book—and this time it was By the Book by Jasmine […]

Murder Triad? Yes, Please

Consort of Fire by Kit Rocha

July 22, 2024 by jessisreading 4 Comments

I don’t remember how I ended up with a copy of Consort of Fire. I might have received a copy directly from the publisher (Montlake). I might have seen it in a bookstore. I might have bought it on Amazon. I honestly have no idea, because I feel like I’ve had it for a million years. So when my podcast co-host mentioned that we should read a romantasy book for our next When In Romance book club, my eye was immediately drawn to Consort of Fire on my […]

cover of Heartwaves by Anita Kelly

Love and Grief on the Oregon Coast

Heartwaves by Anita Kelly

July 20, 2024 by jessisreading Leave a Comment

Every Anita Kelly book I read is my new favorite, and this is the one currently holding the trophy. When we meet Mae, they have just spread their best friend’s ashes at the beach in a small Oregon town. Almost on a whim, she decides to move to this town—in part because she wants to be closer to Jesus (the friend, not the Lord), and in part because there’s a storefront for sale on Main Street. What better way to honor Jesus’s legacy than to […]

cover of Birding With Benefits by Sarah T. Dubb

Oh Thank God; It’s Good!

Birding With Benefits by Sarah T. Dubb

July 16, 2024 by jessisreading 1 Comment

When you live a pretty bookish lifestyle, you’re bound to become friends with a lot of bookish people. This is twofold when you’re not just a big part of your local reading community, but you’re also a librarian. So when you have a friend who is not only a romance reader friend but a librarian friend, and they’ve written a book—a romance novel, nonetheless—you’re kind of expected to read it! (You also want to read it, because it’s a romance novel! Written by your friend! Set […]

cover of A Gamble at Sunset by Vanessa Riley

I *think* I enjoyed it? Either way, glad I read it.

A Gamble At Sunset by Vanessa Riley

June 11, 2024 by jessisreading 2 Comments

As seems to continue happening, I was searching for a book to listen to at work on Libby, and Vanessa Riley’s newest, A Gamble at Sunset was available to check out immediately. Riley is one of those authors whose novels I always have the intention of reading. I read one or two of her self-pubbed books a decade ago, but keep Not Reading the others, for no fault other than they’re not at the top of my list when I’m looking for my next read. And that’s […]
