I’ve been around off and on since the first year of CBR, and it and books have been a constant in my life through multiple moves and a major career change. I live with 3 cats, Dany, Jace and Jorah. Fantasy, specific types of sci-fi, historical fiction (especially mysteries) and romance tend to be my go to genres now a days. Arts and crafts as magic

The Moorwitch by Jessica Khoury

November 7, 2025 by Jen K Leave a Comment

Bingo Square: Free Space, replacing Borrow – and board complete with two final bingos (2nd column & last row) This novel was an Amazon First read for October, and the author was scheduled for a talk with Beth Revis at a local bookstore so it seemed like the perfect choice. The talk was earlier this week, and it was such a great discussion. I hadn’t actually picked up on this when I read it but Khoury did say this novel was inspired by/a nod to […]

Immigrant Stories

The Wind Knows My Name by Isabel Allende

November 6, 2025 by Jen K Leave a Comment

Bingo Square: Migrant – and bingos 8, 9 and 10 – 1st row, 1st column, and diagonal (top left to bottom right). I didn’t really have anything from the books I had read that I thought would be a good fit (there was a super forced fit but it felt disrespectful given everything going on in the world with immigration etc). When I had been searching through my TBR pile, I had considered several Isabel Allende novels as an option but couldn’t decide. So when […]

Back to “Normal” Until the Next Major Life Change

Silver and Lead by Seanan McGuire

November 6, 2025 by Jen K Leave a Comment

Bingo Square: Favorite (new entry from a favorite series and author) – Bingo 7/4th row While I thought it would be funny to put The Favorites in my “Favorite” square, once we got to the end of September and I hadn’t filled my Bingo card, there was only one answer for this square – the newest October Daye novel! After releasing two Toby novels in 2023, Seanan McGuire switched publishers, leading to a two year break between novels. This one starts off about four months […]

The Cutting Edge and Daisy Jones with edge

The Favorites by Layne Fargo

October 31, 2025 by Jen K Leave a Comment

Bingo: Play (for the sports angle since ice dancing, though everyone is very serious about it) (Bingo #6, 2nd row complete) This novel came on my radar last year on one of those anticipated novels of 2025 because of the description, and I checked out the author’s They Never Learn as a result while waiting for this one – I liked that one quite a bit but didn’t love it. Finally picked this one up – if you love The Cutting Edge, Daisy Jones and […]

Portions for Foxes

Nine Tailed by Jayci Lee

October 31, 2025 by Jen K Leave a Comment

Bingo Square – N – and 3 bingos, making for 5 total (1. middle row – BINGO, 2. middle column, and 3. diagonal bottom left to top right) I got this one sometime last year as a Prime First choice (I usually don’t bother because I have enough books I want to read that I haven’t gotten to without adding random free stuff but every once in a while they’ll have an option that sounds like something I would have picked up on my own), […]

So I Probably Should Have Googled the Author first

The Binding by Bridget Collins

October 31, 2025 by Jen K Leave a Comment

Bingo Square: TBR (bought it as a daily deal over 2 years ago) – this is also the last square I can mark without also getting another Bingo To start, this was a book I randomly had in my kindle account because it was a fantasy novel with an interesting concept and a gorgeous cover that was cheap/on sale one day (I think it had an olderc prettier version of the cover still when I bought it). I haven’t seen much (or anything) about this […]
