Baby Blues

February 25, 2015 by janniethestrange Leave a Comment

An abandoned baby? Really? Ugh. Yeah, this, the seventh in the Aimee Leduc investigations series just left me cold. From the opening scene, where Aimee gets a mysterious late night call to rush down to the courtyard to discover an abandoned infant I had an uneasy feeling about this book.  Aimee inexplicably decides to care for the baby while investigating where she came from, enlisting the help of Rene, her partner. The mystery itself, involving increasingly violent clashes between environmental activists and an oil company was […]

Chasing Ghosts

February 23, 2015 by janniethestrange Leave a Comment

Murder in Montmartre is the sixth book in the Aimee Leduc series. Aimee is once again enmeshed in a dangerous investigation, trying to clear a childhood friend of murder. Laure’s papa was a flic, just like Aimee’s, and she followed in her father’s footsteps, finally gaining a posting. One night, while attending a retirement party, Laure invites Aimee to come along and see some of her father’s old colleagues. She hasn’t been there long when Laure gets into an argument with her partner, Jaques. They […]

See what trying to meditate will get you?

February 20, 2015 by janniethestrange Leave a Comment

In Murder in Clichy, Aimee Leduc’s 5th investigation, Aimee has promised her doctor (and sometime boyfriend) that she will take it easy, while she continues to recover form the temporary loss of sight featured in the last book. This means taking her meds, creating a healthier lifestyle (hence the stab at meditation) and sticking to computer forensic work. No more chasing bad guys. And she was going to stick to that plan, really she was. Then a nun at the Cao Dai Temple asked her […]

Fear of the dark

February 19, 2015 by janniethestrange Leave a Comment

In this, the fourth Aimee Leduc book, Aimee is attacked and left blinded. In the next passage over another young woman is killed and the flics are quick to blame the “Beast of the Bastille”, a notorious serial killer who has recently been set free on a technicality, for both attacks. Even in her vulnerable state, Aimee can “smell” there is something wrong with this pat answer and sets about solving this latest mystery. Her partner Rene comes to the fore as he is called […]

so close………

February 17, 2015 by janniethestrange 5 Comments

Murder in the Sentier is the third Aimee Leduc novel and I am more hooked on this series than before. Aimee is smart, tenacious, and more than a little messed up  due to her mother abandoning her when she was a child, as well as the death of her father before her very eyes. In this installment, she hears from a mysterious woman named Jutta who claims to not only know her mother but that they also shared a cell in the notorious Fresnes prison. […]

Cast away

February 13, 2015 by janniethestrange Leave a Comment

I don’t remember if I got this e-book free through BookBub or Amazon’s First series. I had loaded up my Kindle with all kinds of free books in anticipation of the CannonBall Read, many in genres I don’t normally read or by completely unknown writers. That’s how I ended up with this book and because it was on my Kindle, I didn’t have any blurbs, reviews or whatnots to jog my memory as to what this was about. Honestly, it was kind of fun diving […]
