I've been doing this since 2015, and though I'm not going to read a hundred books a year, I plan on doing this for the foreseeable future. I also maintain the Cannonball Read database, and make infrequent updates on our reading habits. (Learn more about this Cannonballer: ingres77's Quick Questions interview.)

My first celebrity memoir, and a well chosen one at that.

David Mitchell (no, not that one) is one of the most adorable people that too few people have heard of. I was vaguely familiar with his shows Peepshow and That Mitchell and Webb Look, but it wasn’t until I discovered that almost every episode of Would I Lie to You? was on Youtube that I truly became smitten with his wry, self-deprecating humor. He is so unambiguously British, and has wholly accepted the posh characterization that has somewhat artificially been placed upon him, I don’t […]

Spiders…Why did it have to be spiders?

August 18, 2017 by ingres77 4 Comments

If this was a zombie book, I think I’d end up giving it 4 stars. If this was a zombie book, it would probably be more popular. If this was a zombie book, I’d have already gotten the sequel, Skitter (which came out in May). But this isn’t a zombie book. Which isn’t, of course, to say that this book isn’t fun – it is. Nor is it to say that you shouldn’t read this if you’re into post-apocalyptic horror stories – you should. But […]

Somewhat Marvelous

August 18, 2017 by ingres77 Leave a Comment

It’s a little weird reading comics after so many years. I used to be an avid collector and dreamt of being an artist one day, until I figured out that I could get more entertainment for less money by reading novels. So I haven’t really read many comics in about 20 years. But I do miss the art. The art here by Adrian Alphona and David Lopez is pretty great, though very different, stylistically. Alphona is looser, less compact, which is actually perfect for the […]

We are all Sansa Stark….and I probably went too far in my Cannonball

August 14, 2017 by ingres77 16 Comments

It is, perhaps, fitting that it’s taken me so long to finish these books (and write this review). I started reading A Game of Thrones at the end of June (and started this review on the 28th), and I’m sitting here well over a month later. I’ve read a couple other books in that time – but I’ve mostly been working my way through this series. It’s taken me longer to read these four/five books (4,300+ pages) than it did to read Harry Potter (4,000+ pages) […]
