CBR Exchange Goodies!

December 31, 2019 by HasenKlub Leave a Comment

This is an extremely late, but huge thank you to The Chancellor for the book exchange goodies! I’ve had The Day the World Came to Town on my TBR list ever since reading a review of it right here on CBR. I work in aviation, and everybody who was here on 9/11 talks about how absolutely chaotic the logistics of that was. I am really excited to read this one. I received this package of books just before going on a trip to Utah, and […]

Thank you, Alexis!

The first time I read The Princess Bride was in 2010 as an ebook on a small 1st generation smartphone during my down time at work. I had grown up with the movie, and as with most people, could quote it in its entirety. This remains one of the few instances where I truly, honestly love both the book and the movie equally as separate entities and as complementary enhancers of each other. I can’t wait to re-read this favorite of mine. But instead of small […]

Wonderful Book Goodies from Joemyjoe

December 10, 2016 by HasenKlub 1 Comment

A big thank you to Joemyjoe (with the assist from scootsa1000) for the CBR Book Exchange goodies! I’ve always loved how obsessively-detailed Patton Oswalt can become with his take on pop-culture, so when I saw this in a bookstore once, I knew immediately that I wanted to read it. And “21” is the only book in Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey/Maturin series that I did not own. Thank you for completing my collection! I can’t wait to read both of them!

This Kid is Going to be Soooooo Messed Up

January 27, 2016 by HasenKlub 2 Comments

As will soon become somewhat of a running theme for my reviews, I’m finally reading a book that came out quite a while ago. I’ve had a very backed-up book queue, alright? Room, by Emma Donoghue, is about a boy who lives with his mother in a small shed. “Ma” was abducted as a teenager and has spent the last seven years in captivity. They story is told through the eyes of Jack, a result of the multiple rapes (the reader is thankfully not subjected […]

No False Promises of Hoverboards in this Future

January 26, 2016 by HasenKlub Leave a Comment

The Time Machine, by H.G. Wells, was published 121 years ago in 1895. And yet, ingress77 and I somehow managed to completely coincidentally read it the exact same time. I only mention this, because 1) I found this amusing, and 2) to get in front of any juicy Cannonball scandal. I specifically did not read the other review, so any similarities are purely due to ingress77 traveling forward in time by a few weeks and plagiarizing my review (in what was really one of the […]

You’ve Seen the Movie, Now See the…Deleted Scenes, I Guess?

January 26, 2016 by HasenKlub 9 Comments

Look, this is a review for the novelization of the movies, so ***SPOILERS AHEAD*** (Although, if this applies to you, just go see it already…)   I’m going to preface this review by saying that I don’t typically read movie novelizations. The only one I have read before was for one of the Jaws sequels when I was a kid. Jaws 2, maybe? I vaguely remember it being about a female shark and she was pregnant, I think? There was definitely maybe a water skier […]
