Welcome to the Week 13 CBR 14 Bingo Check-in! You can see the card and the rules on the kick-off post. This week’s mood: Chonky bears and salmon. Congratulations to 747, winner of this year’s Fat Bear Week. I also had salmon for dinner, though not nearly as much and sadly, I don’t have the option of hibernating for several months. “Rest makes us more human. It brings us back to our human-ness.”
Rest is Resistance: A Manifesto by Tricia Hersey
Rest is Resistance: A Manifesto is a great follow up read to The 1619 Project. I started following Tricia Hersey’s The Nap Ministry in 2017 on Twitter and later on Instagram. I hope this book is read widely and deeply because it could be life saving. It’s the kind of book that people put on their TBR because it seems like an important book, and then they never read it, or read it years later, or pretend they read it. But really, just read it […]
CBR14 Bingo – Week 12 Check-in
Welcome to the Week 12 CBR 14 Bingo Check-in! You can see the card and the rules on the kick-off post. This week’s mood: We do bones, motherf*cker! I paused my listen of Harrow to go back to listen to Gideon again, and someday I’ll get myself to Nona. Meanwhile, if you want to talk about The Locked Tomb series, we have a discord now and I’ll send you an invite if you leave a comment. Please check your tags and make sure you are […]
We were in the most romantic of unromantic places. It was perfect.
The Christmas Clash by Suzanne Park
Christmas Clash was an engaging YA romance. Less Christmas and less clash, more teens figuring out how to grow up and be their own people. The tagline ‘Tis the Season to be Enemies is cute, but not actually reflective of the book, for which I am grateful. Chlow Kwon and Peter Li have always known each other, sort of. Their parents have competing restaurants across the mall food court from each other. The Kwons and the Lis have hated each other for years, and Chloe […]
“Hidey ho, neighbor.” And he crossed the three feet that had been between them and slid his hands around her waist.
Chick Magnet by Emma Barry
My heart. Emma Barry is so good. At its core, Chick Magnet is hurt/comfort. Nic and Will each start the book in a bad place and though they are in no condition to start a new relationship, they offer each other comfort and understanding. The deep emotion and drama of hurt/comfort is well balanced by the joy of chickens, kittens, friendships, and a variety of banters that range from funny to steamy. Nic has moved to Yagerstown, Virginia with her flock of chickens after being […]
“You want us to Molotov cocktail our way out of here.” He gestured. “It would be a distraction, at least.”
Partners in Crime by Alisha Rai
Partners in Crime is the Alisha Rai book I’ve always wanted. I had such a good time with this. Exes Mira and Naveen get kidnapped together and work together to get themselves out of the trouble Mira’s late father got them into. This is a fun ride, and I recommend not thinking to hard about time. If the last couple of years have taught us anything, time is fake. Also fake – Mira’s name and utterly boring accountant persona. Even more fake – the reasons […]
