Winter Wonderland bundle by HEA for Trans Kids

November 29, 2022 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Yes! It’s book bundle time at HEAs for Trans Kids. This time I’m reviewing just a few of the books in the Winter Wonderland bundle. I want you to have an opportunity to donate your minimum of $25, through December 5, so you can get your own bundle. Hither, Page by Cat Sebastian – I have previously reviewed it here, and it is still excellent. The real scandal is that I haven’t reviewed The Missing Page yet. Part of me wants to say that the […]

Vixen’s Wail, a rock series for people who don’t want to read about them other hos

Rhythm by Marie Lipscomb

Strings by Marie Lipscomb

Amped by Marie Lipscomb

Encore by Marie Lipscomb

November 28, 2022 by Emmalita 4 Comments

One of the things I really hate about reading rock star romances is the high likelihood that other women are going to be called whores. Marie Lipscomb has written a whole 4 book series with a rock band in which not a single character is denigrated for their sex life. There are no evil other women. The fans are not groupies. It’s so nice. This is also a series that starts well and gets better as it goes on. Rhythm – Beth rents a mountain […]

Georgie, All Along by Kate Clayborn

November 24, 2022 by Emmalita 1 Comment

I like Kate Clayborn’s Georgie, All Along so much. This is the book I’ve been waiting for since Luck of the Draw. Her other releases have been good, but this one, this one is the perfect blend of heart, sass, and heat. It will make you cry, but won’t make you feel stupid for doing it. Georgie Mulcahey returns to the small Virginia town where she grew up with all her worldly possessions in her Prius. She’s come back to help her best friend get […]

It made Felix feel good to know the man who so tirelessly championed their past apparently had people in his present, too.

Felix Navidad by ‘Nathan Burgoine

November 22, 2022 by Emmalita 2 Comments

I saw this on NetGalley a couple of days after I raved about ‘Nathan Burgoine’s Handmade Holidays in the HEAforTransKids’ Winter Wonderland bundle. I requested it immediately. Burgoine is one of my new favorite, will read everything they’ve written authors. Felix Navidad lived up to the hype I gave it, while also being more than I anticipated. Felix is a nurse who works with clients in their homes. He became a nurse after experiencing the positive impact a nurse could have on patients and families […]

Fried Chicken and “Wild Geese”

Best Women's Erotica of the Year, Volume 8 by Rachel Kramer Bussel,

November 22, 2022 by Emmalita 6 Comments

I read erotica for several reasons. One of them is political. Accusations of pornography are thrown around when pushing back against the (small) gains in representation made by BIPOC and queer authors. Side note, a friend told me the parent group at her kids’ school had to argue with someone who claimed the description of a child eating a mango was pornographic. The reasonable parents prevailed, but in too many communities the unreasonable people are succeeding. I’m happy to frustrate a bigot by supporting my […]

Baking *is* Therapy

Mind Over Batter by Jack Hazen

November 18, 2022 by Emmalita 7 Comments

A whole book talking about baking as therapy! From a therapist and a baker! This is so up my alley. I bake for sanity, I make food for people as a love language. If I can’t bake I get antsy. I think this is a mostly excellent book. Hazen connects recipes to aspects of mental health that he wants you to keep in mind. He may focus on the sensory aspects of baking (aroma, feel, sound), or the necessary lessons of patience. He also uses […]
