It Happened One Fight by Maureen Lee Lenker

July 28, 2023 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

He’d shown her that there was another way than what she’d always believed love to be. That love could be quiet and mysterious. That a person could be her port in a storm rather than the hurricane itself.” It Happened One Fight It Happened One Fight is Entertainment Weekly columnist Maureen Lee Lenker’s debut novel. Patti Murin narrates well, giving each character a distinctive voice. Joan Davis and Dash Howard are gold together on the screen, but they hate each other off screen. Well, Joan […]

Should you happen to find yourself at Pike Place Market with money to spend…

Pasta for All Seasons by Michela Tartaglia

July 25, 2023 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Michela Tartaglia’s Pasta for All Seasons: Dishes that Celebrate the Flavors of Italy and the Bounty of the Pacific Northwest does what it says on the tin. It’s a beautiful cookbook that is really geared for people who have access to Seattle’s Pike Place Market or at least really good markets in the coastal Pacific Northwest. Chef Tartaglia even adds in the specific place you should source some of the ingredients. I can’t even be mad at how specific it is because it says it […]

Marry Me by Midnight by Felicia Grossman

July 25, 2023 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Felicia Grossman has been on my authors to read list for quite awhile. I follow her on social media and she seems like someone who would write books I would enjoy reading. I was correct. I found Marry Me by Midnight delightful. It is a gender swapped, Jewish Cinderella set in London during the late Georgian period (not long after the Regency). Isabelle Lira needs a husband to help her keep her portion of her late father’s surety business. His surviving business partners, the Berab brothers, don’t […]

Sebastian huffed. “You make it sound like a crime.” “Yes, darling,” Wesley said, slow and patronizing. “Because it is.”

Once a Rogue by Allie Therin

July 22, 2023 by Emmalita 1 Comment

When I started reading Allie Therin a few years ago, I didn’t expect that she would become one of my go to authors for banter. She has though. Wesley, Lord Fine, and Sebastian de Leon give good banter as they try to find out what’s happening in the paranormal world. I enjoyed this so much and there’s so much I can’t talk about because it’s spoilery. Once a Rogue, is the second book in the Roaring Twenties Magic series, which is itself a spinoff of […]

It was always aliens who had built the pyramids. Nobody could conceive of any Indigenous group erecting anything more complex than a hut.

Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

July 19, 2023 by Emmalita 1 Comment

I loved Monstserrat (Momo) and Tristán. I think they are my favorite Silvia Moreno Garcia characters. I loved them individually and especially together. I liked, but did not love the story they were in. And it wasn’t so much the plot, because that’s great, but there were times when I was frustrated with the info dumps. I think we got bogged down in detail too many times. Monserrat and Tristán have been friends since they were children, when Monserrat saved Tristán from bullies. Momo is […]
