Last year before the Guardians of the Galaxy movie was released, I confessed that I had never been a comics reader and I felt overwhelmed about where to start. As usual, Pajibans were helpful and suggested I start with Guardians of the Galaxy: Legacy. I bought it, I read it and I enjoyed it. But for some reason, I was not up to writing a review. On Sunday, while I was waiting for a friend, I opened up my Kindle library and decided to […]
Book Exchange Book 1 – Loved it!
I read and loved McKinley’s The Blue Sword when I was a teen, but had no idea there was a subsequently written prequel of sorts until a 2013 Pajiba thread in defense of adults reading YA. Still one of my favorite comment threads. So many good recommendations. After I spent well over a year not getting around to picking up this book I was dying to read (because I do that), the lovely Mrs. Smith included it in my CBR Gift Exchange box o’ goodies. […]
This book is worth falling short of my goal.
I’m not going to make my half Cannonball goal. I tried to power read through Ever After so that I could get through book 12 and reach my Half Cannonball goal, but life got busy and Ever After demanded I pay attention. A lot of gargoyles came to roost and Rachel had more than the usual disaster to sort out. There is a psychotic demon who wants her dead and he wants to kill the Ever After and everyone in it and then dominate Reality with the […]
And now the humans are doing human things :(
This is the 10th book of a 13 book series. Don’t start here. Spoilers. Yadda, yadda. Shit got real and the first half or so of this book was tough for me to get through. I’m glad I’m reading it so close to the end of the year, because I might have picked up something else. Here’s what’s tough for me – torture and cruelty. Fighting kinds of violence don’t bother me much, but torture and deliberate cruelty do. To be fair, there are only […]
Once you go dragon, you wish for a wagon
Make 2015 the year that you introduce yourself to Ken Scholes. One of the beauties of the internet and social media is that you intersect with people you will probably never meet in person and then they introduce you to things you might not have otherwise seen. Many of my favorite things have come to me this way. Through a Facebook friend whom I may never meet in person, I read “If Dragon’s Mass Eve Be Cold and Clear.” I wrote a review and as […]
The Gift of The Magi, Zombies, and the Worst Meet Cute Ever
Last year, Christopher Moore’s Lamb was one of my favorite books of the year. Friendly Pajiban, Uriah_Creep, recommended I follow it up with The Stupidest Angel. I did buy and read The Stupidest Angel last year, but at the same time I came down with some sort of hideous illness that made me wish I would die, so it didn’t get reviewed. I vowed to re-read it and review it this year during the seasonally appropriate few days before Christmas. The Stupidest Angel is no […]
