The Influencers by Anna-Marie McLemore

April 17, 2025 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Anna-Marie McLemore’s The Influencers is one of the most interesting, frustrating, thought-provoking books I’ve almost not finished in a long time. We start with a chapter title telling us that there has been a murder, but before we hear anything about the crime or the victim, an anonymous chorus called “we the followers of Mother May I” tells us about May Iverson, mommy vlogger and influencer, and her 5 adult children, who she named April, June, July, January, and March. The murder victim is May’s […]

Last Chance to Save the World by Beth Revis

April 14, 2025 by Emmalita 2 Comments

Hi! I’m going to need you all to go read this series so that I can get more books! I need a fully radicalized (corrupted? No, he can’t be corrupted, he must be radicalized) Rian. I need a Strom Fedor meltdown. I need more of Ada stealing things right under everyone’s noses. Maybe Strom Fedor can also die in a cheese explosion. I just need more stories in the Chaotic Orbits series. To clarify, no Last Chance to Save the World does not end on […]

Who are you selling your soul to?

Hammajang Luck by Makana Yamamoto

April 7, 2025 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

I enjoyed this so much! First of all if you can, get the audio book. Jolene Kim is an amazing narrator. There were moments when I forgot this wasn’t a full cast production. Second, it’s a heist – a queer as hell sci-fi heist with a Schmelon Schmusk coded bad guy. There’s a dash of second chance, friends to enemies to lovers romance, but mostly it’s about Edie trying to figure out their life when they are surprise paroled from prison. Edie wants to go […]

Cover of Janine Amesta’s Love at First Flight

“Um, a crow just walked into your house.” “It’s okay. She does that all the time.”

Love at First Flight by Janine Amesta

April 2, 2025 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Last year I added Janine Amesta to my long list of authors I wish more people would read. I love her writing and the characters she creates. If you haven’t read her yet, Love at First Flight is a good place to start and it’s out mid April. If you don’t want to wait until then, I highly recommend Lucky Strike, which was one of my favorite reads last year. Selah Moreno was on her way to flight school when she got a call from […]

“It’s a shame we don’t have all the time in the world.” He continues before that statement can sting. “But we’ll make do with what we have.”

Sweet Obsession by Katee Robert

April 1, 2025 by Emmalita 2 Comments

Sweet Obsession is fantastic, but can’t be read as a standalone. The romance between Icarus and Poseidon is one of the best of the Dark Olympus series. Sweet Obsession also does two things that needed to happen at this point in the series. One it brings us firmly back into Olympus’s politics in the upper city. Two, by giving us more Hera and Zeus, and finally letting us meet Circe, it sets the hook for the final two books in the series. At the end of Dark […]

My Best Friend’s Honeymoon by Meryl Wilsner

March 29, 2025 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

My Best Friend’s Honeymoon is somehow the first book I’ve read by Meryl Wilsner. I enjoyed it a lot and now I get to go read their backlist. I listened to an advance copy narrated by Blair Baker and Emily Shaw. I thought they did a great job bringing the book to life. Elsie’s fiancé, Derek, plans and schedules the wedding that Elsie has said she’s too busy and overwhelmed to plan. When he shows Elsie the venue and lets her know they are getting […]
