Only aiming for a quarter Cannonball this year after miserably failing last year, but I've missed the CBR community and the great work done here!

Ellepkay's Reviews:

Why do I punish myself and continue to make myself finish books I’m no longer interested in?

September 4, 2016 by Ellepkay Leave a Comment

This is really more of a 2.5 to *maybe* a low 3 star book.  This is the second book in the Blades of the Rose series.  I was really surprised, but I did not like it nearly as much as the first.  When reading the description this one seemed way more up my alley, but it didn’t pan out and took me absolutely months to finish reading it. I’m going to plagiarize myself a little bit from a prior review to give the setup: Bennett […]

Bored. I’m so bored.

August 29, 2016 by Ellepkay 3 Comments

This book was just so boring.  Nothing wrong with it, but nothing particularly right about it either.  If you’re looking for a completely generic historical romance, look no further. Lucy Merryweather is an American heiress on her own in London.  She has not run away, but traveled to visit her ex-fiance and has decided to stay and have some fun.  Along with the money she inherited from her great aunt, she also inherited a diary that lists all of the aunt’s regrets in life.  Lucy […]

Do you prefer your coffee with some Angst?

August 16, 2016 by Ellepkay 1 Comment

This is my second Annabeth Albert novella.  I really liked it, although not nearly as much as the first.  She packs a LOT of angst into this one.  Angst is not my preferred flavor, but I still enjoyed it, and read it very fast.  Like the other novella, the set up for the story is very straightforward, and both characters likeable. Robby is a Portland hipster who owns his own coffee cart.  He has a crush on David, a daily regular customer.  They dance around […]

Spoiler: The Ship Sinks

August 8, 2016 by Ellepkay 1 Comment

I love everything that Erik Larson has written.  I usually read them, but I went with the audiobook version for this one.  It took me an entire year to get through – but that was no fault of the book.  You see, I like happy endings.  The ending here is no surprise, and I stopped listening to this one when it reached the last morning of the voyage.  I just couldn’t do it. Then, I found myself on a long solo car trip with my […]

Really Sweet M/M Romance Novella

August 7, 2016 by Ellepkay 2 Comments

This novella was absolutely charming!  Bryce and Clark were freshman college roommates and quickly became best friends.  They both had feelings for each other, but did not want to ruin their friendship, were dating other people, or living different places, so a romantic relationship never worked out.  They have been apart for 5 years, and Bryce has felt abandoned during that time. Clark shows back up in his life and Bryce doesn’t know how to feel about it.  Clark has to convince Bryce that they […]

Realistic (and slightly depressing) Hockey Romance

August 2, 2016 by Ellepkay 1 Comment

This is the second book in this series.  I liked the first one, but said that I wouldn’t seek out the others – except this one went on sale for $1, and that was good enough for me!  The big conflict in this one is probably the most realistic I have come across in a contemporary romance.  There’s no high drama or tragic backstory, just two people who connect, but are not sure how to make a relationship work. Scott Walters is a hockey player […]
