Only aiming for a quarter Cannonball this year after miserably failing last year, but I've missed the CBR community and the great work done here!

“Philosophically speaking, truth is a slippery concept and one should always be alive to nuance.”

This is Book 6 in the Rivers of London/Peter Grant series.  It is SO much better than the last outing, and I’m so very happy.  I would put it right up there with Midnight Riot and Broken Homes (my two favorites so far). These are not individual mysteries.  I highly recommend reading this series in order because there is an ongoing story that builds with each one. There are apparently graphic novels that take place in between some of the novels, and I think those […]

Middling

This is a hard book to review.  The reading experience itself was pretty enjoyable, but I had a lot of problems with the story, so it gets a mixed review. I was pleasantly surprised by this book.  Why?  Because I had SUPER low expectations for it.  But, it’s an offshoot of the stories about my #1 favorite romance couple (from Him and Us), and it includes the scene of their wedding, so it was a given that I would have to read it.  Yes, there […]

Kicking ass and taking over the world

This is Book 2 in the Kingmaker Chronicles series and you ABSOLUTELY MUST read them in order.  There is so much you will be missing if you don’t read A Promise of Fire first.  I’m going to try and review here without major spoilers for either book.  I really loved the first book, and enjoyed this one quite a bit, but definitely not as much. Book 2 picks up immediately from where the last one left off.  Cat and Griffin have made promises to each […]

Better than my first novel would be

January 24, 2017 by Ellepkay 3 Comments

Lucy Parker’s Act Like It was a big hit with CBR 8.  This one is Parker’s previous book, written under a pseudonym.  It is ok.  It’s really short coming in under 200 pages.  If you liked Act Like It and you have some free time, it’s not a waste to read this one, but I didn’t find it to be a particularly compelling story.  This review is going to sound like a list of complaints (and it kind of is), but I pretty much enjoyed […]

Better than the first

January 18, 2017 by Ellepkay 7 Comments

This is book 2 in the Brooklyn Bruisers series, and coming right out of the gate I enjoyed it way more than book 1. If you’re already a Sarina Bowen fan this book will not disappoint you.  If you aren’t familiar with Bowen’s work, this is actually a pretty decent one to start with.  This book stands on its own and you do not need to read the series in order. This is Patrick O’Doul’s story.  He is the Bruisers ‘enforcer’ and a veteran of […]

My embarrassment knows no end

January 15, 2017 by Ellepkay 16 Comments

I…I…I’m so embarrassed.  This book is a horror and encapsulates so much that is wrong with the romance genre.  I devoured it quickly and hated myself the whole time.  Basically, I feel about this book the way the heroine felt about the hero the whole time – this is SO wrong for me, but I just can’t keep away. Chloe Mills is a business school student finishing up her degree with an internship at a marketing company.  Her boss is Bennett Ryan, the titular Beautiful […]
