One day. 500 pages and it all happens in one long day. There are two short chapters covering the final weeks at the very end of Patricia Cornwell’s Dust, but almost the entire book is one day. Kay Scarpetta wakes early one morning shortly before Christmas to her pager calling her to a murder scene. The picture of the victim is oddly reminiscent of three murders her husband is currently out of town investigating. They work for different organizations though and can’t really share info (nevermind […]
Low Indeed
There’s a quiet undertone of loneliness that permeates The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri from beginning to end. Every character seems unable to fulfill what others want from them, unable to communicate to others what they need from each other, and unwilling to try and find a middle in between. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this book. It was just too much and the characters too empty. To read more about it, head to my blog.

Actors Anonymous reads like a psyche experiment operated by author James Franco. Each chapter is “written” by a member of the group, Actors Anonymous, and often describe terrible things by terrible people. Each one prescribes to a specific rule of Actors Anonymous, a 12 step program, as laid out in the beginning of the book. If this sounds like an interesting read to you, head over to my blog!
Antiques Roadshow, meet Murder She Wrote
Last year my book club read A Deadly Vintage, I think the third in the Molly Doyle Mystery series. It was fun and pretty cute. A quick read with friendly characters that was easy to jump into without having read the earlier volumes of the series. It did make me want to go back and read the previous ones though. Personally, I’ve Never Much Cared for Bees
This was a book club book choice for me, so going in, I had no real idea of what to expect or even what the book was about (other than bees and mist, the great outdoors?). I might have enjoyed this a little more had I bothered to read a quick book synopsis, but this is definitely not a book I would have chosen on my own. To find out why, head over to my blog post.
