Holy Graphic Novels Batman

Batman/Catwoman by Tom King (Author), Clay Mann (Illustrator), Lee Weeks (Illustrator), Liam Sharp (Illustrator), Michael Lark (Illustrator)

Batman Wayne Family Adventures Vol 1 by C. R. C. Payne (Author), Starbite (Illustrator)

Batman/Catwoman I’m not very knowledgeable about the current state of DC Comics, so I chose this collection because a) I had heard that this was outside of the main canon, and b) thanks to Batman Returns and Selina Kyle’s appearances in Batman: The Animated Series I have become a fan of the Bat/Cat relationship.   So a graphic novel that was about those characters?  Count me in! I guess alphabetical order wins out because this story is really about Selina Kyle, the Catwoman of the […]

Remember, It’s YOUR prom; make it one to remember always!

Carrie by Stephen King

The Weight of Blood by Tiffany D. Jackson

May 16, 2024 by dreadpiratekel 1 Comment

I thought my prom was “bad” in that it all felt overhyped, my feet hurt the whole evening, I swear my hair ended up hurting from all the pins I had stuck in it, and I got into a fight with my friends at Safe Grad and ended up walking home from the high school carrying my prom dress in a backpack (I was supposed to get a ride home with said friends).  However, it didn’t end in flames or death so you know what?  […]

“Oh, you were a vampire and, baby, I’m the walking dead”

Night’s Edge by Liz Kerin

May 8, 2024 by dreadpiratekel Leave a Comment

When Mia was ten years old, her mother died and then came back to life.  Mia’s mother Izzy has been infected by a disease known as Saratov’s syndrome, and she’s now something a little different than your baseline human.  Those infected with Saratov’s syndrome (known as Sara’s) need to drink blood to live, don’t age, are super fast, can’t be easily killed, but sunlight will do the job when it comes to killing them.  Since the word vampire is not used in the book, I’m […]

Hitchhiking Once Again is a Dangerous Game

Murder Road by Simone St. James

May 5, 2024 by dreadpiratekel Leave a Comment

Murder Road by Simone St. James is a supernatural mystery/thriller and I’ll be honest I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it.  I read it in one day, so that says I wasn’t bored or distracted by it, but I also was left feeling a little “well …”  So for me, it’s a solid three-star read.  Fun, did its job by entertaining me but all felt a little … ephemeral at the end. Set in 1995, the story follows newlyweds April and Eddie who […]

So you married a werewolf …(or baby now we maybe got bad blood)

Bride by Ali Hazelwood

April 20, 2024 by dreadpiratekel Leave a Comment

I will admit when I first heard that this book was a thing, I was a bit of a hater about it.  I went “It’s a vampyre and werewolf romance and the vampyre’s name is Misery … oh here we go.”  Then I heard it had alpha/beta/omega tropes that I was familiar with from fanfiction and I maybe eye-rolled a bit.  Because I was being judgey (to be clear I read fanfic, and I love a lot of fanfic, I just personally tend not to […]

They’re All Good Dogs

Dogs on the Trail: A Year In The Life by Blair Braverman and Quince Mountain

April 5, 2024 by dreadpiratekel 1 Comment

As someone who was deeply traumatized by the movie Eight Below, (and before that Where the Red Fern Grows) I approach any media that features dogs with suspicion.  So let me assure you: all the dogs in this come out the other side okay. I picked this book up because I have quite enjoyed Blair Braverman’s appearances on the You’re Wrong About podcast, and I knew she had written books (I read her fiction debut [Small Game] a few years ago), but I had forgotten […]
