Cozy fantasy and Sci-fi are my self care reads. I love a good magic system and dragons are always welcome. I like my Sci-fi LGBTQ+ positive. YA and Romance fill a sweet spot. And I never underestimate good children's fiction! (Learn more about this Cannonballer: Dome’Loki's Quick Questions interview.)

Dome'Loki's Reviews:

The book Fugitive Telemetry is standing next to two wind up robot toys.

“Possibly I should just stop complaining like a human and get on with it.”

Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells

July 14, 2021 by Dome'Loki 5 Comments

CBR 13 Bingo: Machinery Fugitive Telemetry fills the gap between the ending of the fourth Murderbot novella, Exit Strategy, and the follow up full length novel Network Effect.  As such it helps bridge Murderbot’s development, from the uncertainty of suddenly becoming a free individual to the more confident, and comfortable in their role, Murderbot of Network Effect.  Physically size wise, Fugitive Telemetry is on par with the other novellas, however, it felt more like a short story to me.  Perhaps that has to do with the action […]

This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar, Max Gladstone

July 13, 2021 by Dome'Loki 3 Comments

CBR 13 Bingo Square: Fauna This is How You Lose the Time War came highly recommended by Cannonballers and all sorts of ‘best of lists’, it’s even a staff pick at Mysterious Galaxy (where it completes a separate bingo square for their summer reading bingo!).  I’m happy to report that it lived up to all the hype.  This is a love story unlike any I have read before, due to the science fiction setting and non-human characters, but it contains classic elements; enemies to lovers, […]

“We’re not helpless. Novels are full of ragtag bands facing impossible odds.”

Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo

June 26, 2021 by Dome'Loki 1 Comment

Rule of Wolves is a good conclusion to the grand story arc begun back in Shadow and Bone.  If you’ve stayed with the Grishaverse to this point, this book is a must read.  And for those who particularly like the “Six of Crows” duology, the gang gets back together for a heist! I enjoyed this book!  But I’m finding it hard to review without spoilers so here are themes within the book.  Ravka has been ramping up it’s technological marvels, adding flying machines and submersibles to […]

“Hope, because that is what we must give him, what we must give all of them. Hope and guidance and a place to call their own, a home where they can be who they are without fear of repercussion”

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

June 15, 2021 by Dome'Loki 4 Comments

It’s rare that I say everyone should read a particular book, but this is a book everyone, of all ages, should read.  TJ Klune has spun a beautiful story in The House in the Cerulean Sea.  It’s about finding one’s place in the world, learning to re-write the narrative others have placed on one’s self, that bigotry and fear can be overcome, and that acceptance can be found, starting sometimes as small as with one person to then slowly grow. Linus Baker is an investigator […]

The book Heroine Complex by Sarah Kuhn sitting on a wooden table top with a leafy plant behind it.

So much fun it helped with my reading slump!

Heroine Complex by Sarah Kuhn

Fellow Cannonballer, Teresaelectro, first brought Heroine Complex to my attention.  Then it was a featured book title for Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month at Mysterious Galaxy.  I was about to go and to pick up May’s book order, when on a whim I called and asked if Heroine Complex was in stock.  It was and I purchased it over the phone, to bring home with the books that were waiting at the store. Due to events this year, I have found reading to be […]

“The world feels safer somehow if we share our pain. It becomes more manageable. And by sharing our pain, we inspire others to share theirs. We are so much less alone if learn to wear our imperfections proudly, like tarnished jewelry that still shines just as brightly.”

Broken (in the best possible way) by Jenny Lawson

May 30, 2021 by Dome'Loki 2 Comments

Reading about loss, grief, and love in Harrow: The Ninth  while grieving the loss of my dog was perhaps not the best choice.  After reading The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy for Cannonball Book Club, it seemed best to keep the comedy going and The Bloggess’s Broken (in the best possible way) was sitting on the shelf waiting.  I  thought I knew what I would be getting in a Jenny Lawson book.  Raw openness about her mental and physical health, along with side splittingly funny stories.  […]
