My husband Jason and I are wonder twin cancer survivors! Sadly, all the radiation did not make us bionic...yet. I've done two quarter Cannonballs successfully now, and this year I'm going for a half.

CBR Square- Violet Ayesha At Last is a modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice set in a Muslim community in Toronto. Ayesha is a teacher but wants to be a poet and travel the world, and Khalid is a more conservative Muslim who wants his mother to arrange his marriage. It is a story about the experiences of immigrants, traditions competing with modern society, and a hero who learns that he can keep his identity and the things that he feels are important while also […]

A spectacular debut YA novel

Color Me In by Natasha Diaz

September 15, 2020 by Debcapsfan 1 Comment

I really loved Color Me In, it was outstanding. It is hard for me to believe this is Natasha Diaz’s debut novel. Color Me In tells the story of Nevaeh Levitz, a black Jewish girl whose parents separate and who moves in with her mother’s family in Harlem. I found this book from a tweet of a friend who retweeted the author. While I can’t comment on perspective of someone who is coming to terms with their racial identity, I can certainly comment from the […]

A Sweet, Cozy Mystery

Seed No Evil by Kate Collins

April 21, 2020 by Debcapsfan Leave a Comment

I’ve read a lot of these cozy flower shop mysteries from Kate Collins from my library (love you, miss you!) and it occurred to me when I was asking for books for the book exchange, I could put one of them on it. So I got this book, Seed No Evil, and read it now when it is the perfect time for a book with a small town with charming, quirky characters. The town is so white. But then, my brother lives in a mid-West […]

Better than the Cupid TV Show

Beaus and Arrows by Rashida T. Williams

April 6, 2020 by Debcapsfan 2 Comments

My first Federal Government job was working at the National Cancer Institute as an administrator. I learned a lot, but the job wasn’t for me and I got let go at the end of the probation year. My fellow hire was a girl named Rashida. We became fast friends and even though the job didn’t work out we stayed in touch over the years. Rashida is a delightful ray of sunshine, so when I found out on Facebook she got a book publishing deal, I […]
