My husband Jason and I are wonder twin cancer survivors! Sadly, all the radiation did not make us bionic...yet. I've done two quarter Cannonballs successfully now, and this year I'm going for a half.

You Can’t Expect to be Treated Rationally as a Woman

November 16, 2017 by Debcapsfan Leave a Comment

3.5 Stars for A Study in Scarlet, 4.5 stars for a Conspiracy in Belgravia Is there anything Sherry Thomas can’t do? After I listened to the audio books A Study in Scarlet and A Conspiracy in Belgravia, I discovered that Sherry Thomas likes to write what she enjoys reading, so she has written romance, fantasy, mystery, and a wuxia-inspired duology. I will seek them all out. These mystery novels were delightful. A Study in Scarlet is a great start, but A Conspiracy in Belgravia was so […]

I Disbelieve

3.5 Stars I found The Last One from a link that said if you liked Wonder Woman, you’ll like these books. I read the description, and thought that maybe it would be too much for me (I do not like scary things AT ALL, I am a big wimp), but I made it through and I liked it well enough. The book tells the story of reality show contestants sent off into the woods and put through the usual team and individual challenges in order to survive. The […]

That was…Fine

August 3, 2017 by Debcapsfan Leave a Comment

I read The Name of the Wind because Lin-Manuel Miranda is going to be involved in the tv and movie adaptations of this book. From the press release: “Lin is an incomparable talent and a huge fan of the trilogy and, working closely with Pat, his creative oversight of the franchise will bring an incredible level of detail and continuity to all of the projects.” First of all, it’s not a trilogy. It’s only got two books so far. I found the book….fine. Certainly not one of […]

These people are in lust, not love

June 5, 2017 by Debcapsfan 1 Comment

I read Winning It All (Hometown Players) based on the description from the Smart Bitches, Trashy books twitter feed. I’ve been going to professional hockey games since I was a wee little sprite. The cover photo made me laugh for a long time. Also, one of my favorite players, Mathieu Perrault, is French Canadian. He once celebrated a win like this. Amazing, right? Anyway. so this book has Sebastian Deveau who plays defense for the pro team in Seattle (this may happen some day, but […]

People in Romance Novels are Very Athletic

April 20, 2017 by Debcapsfan 7 Comments

I read Lucy Parker’s Pretty Face because it was recommended by emmalita and Mrs. Julien and I like reading good romances, so I tried this one. It tells the story of Lily Lamprey, a 20 something who just landed her first big play, a production called 1553 in which all the major roles are women and I would watch the heck out of and enjoy. (Someone should make this play, seriously) I disagree with Luc’s assessment that Elizabeth was a pawn at this point in […]

Thank You Cannonballers!

March 14, 2017 by Debcapsfan 4 Comments

Rated 5 heart eyes I asked for recommendations on the Cannonball Read Facebook page for a romance with humor, good chemistry between the main characters, and a good plot. The Hating Game was described as “hilarious and quirky and perfect.” I read it and loved it so much. Definitely a book where I was staying up later than I should be reading because I wanted more. Lucy and Joshua are both assistants to the CEOs of two publishing companies that merged together. Lucy is sweet […]
