Holiday fluff

Dear Santa by Debbie Macomber

December 26, 2021 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

In the spirit of the holidays, I decided to pick up a fluffy holiday romance that we just got in at our library.  I don’t know if I’ve ever read anything by Debbie Macomber, but it was… fine.  It always seems more apparent when listening to audiobooks than reading when an author repeats phrases often, or when language gets a bit awkward, but this author churns out a ton of books, so I suppose that can be forgiven.  It was nice that this didn’t have […]

Worth the hype!

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

December 26, 2021 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

This book is a delight.  It is charming, and thought provoking, and overall just lovely.  It takes place in a world not too far off from our own, only there is magic.  The magic may have been hidden away for quite some time, but those who were magical were probably forced to show themselves.  The “people in charge” decided that in order to “include” these magical beings into society, they must be registered.  For what purpose remains unclear.     Mr. Linus Baker, our protagonist, works […]

An interesting concept, but I was still confused at times

Dead Wednesday by Jerry Spinelli

December 26, 2021 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

I’m not sure how I feel about Jerry Spinelli as an author.  Some things I like, Stargirl for example, and some are a bit too weird, like Hokey Pokey.  Dead Wednesday has a bit of both, although it feels more like Stargirl.  I do have some lingering questions that I know will never be answered, though.   Dead Wednesday is an interesting concept.  The overall idea is that for one day, every eighth grader gets the name of a teenager who died during the past […]

This book hits differently when you’re going through it

You Can Thank Me Later by Kelly Harms

December 26, 2021 by crystalclear 1 Comment

Whelp, this one hit home a bit more than I would have liked.  I picked this up on Audible last year or the year before (I don’t really remember) and decided to finally listen to it around this Thanksgiving.  The main story revolves around a family of siblings meeting every year for Thanksgiving, and we see three different years (I think they’re at least two or three years apart.)  The first year, the oldest brother is married with a child on the way.  The younger […]
