Should I Give in to the Chocolate Hummus?

Vegan in an Instant by Marina Delio

February 20, 2022 by CoffeeShopReader 2 Comments

I think I may have gotten lucky with Vegan in an Instant; I had a coupon and opened the book to a specific page, and basically bought it from that. This is an officially endorsed Instant Pot book; I do have one, but it’s an older model that does not have the yogurt setting; putting one recipe out of reach. This is ok with me, since that’s not the recipe that caught my eye anyways. The I got lucky part is that a lot of […]

Queer Found Family with a Human Murderbot on a Three Fish Ship in Space

You Sexy Thing by Cat Rambo

February 20, 2022 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

This is one of those books where I wonder if the entire reason the title was only chosen to set up an obvious but still kind of funny gag that goes entirely unacknowledged in the book. You Sexy Thing is actually the name of a bioship, basically an organic, kind of sentient spaceship; it’s current owner, slightly mysterious uber wealthy Arpat Takraven, set a password that’s incredibly obvious given the ship’s name, but there’s never any explanation for the origins of the ship’s name or […]

Tensions building

The King's Beast vol. 5 by Rei Toma

February 14, 2022 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Volume 5 of The King’s Beast is starting to build up all the tensions; Rangetsu realizes she likes her Prince when he thinks she’s a guy body-guard, she finds out that the attendant Taihaku knows what she is but might be willing to help her keep the secret until she can avenge her brother’s murder, there’s a strong hint who may have been responsible although it’s really not that surprising, one of the other Princes may be onto Rangetsu as well, and Prince Tenyou is […]

Meh Valentine’s Reading

A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske

February 14, 2022 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I decided to do some Valentine’s Day reading; I figured A Marvellous Light might be a safer bet than usual (I’m not a romance person) because a writer of a romantic novel that I did like had a positive blurb on the back. The basic premise has a lot of familiar elements: two people are forced to work together, don’t exactly get along, are forced into an investigation (how to cure Robin’s curse, and what happened to Robin’s predecessor who seems to have gone missing), […]

Random Randomness with Random People in Random Places Randomly

A Carnival of Snackery: Diaries 2003-2020 by David Sedaris

February 6, 2022 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

A Carnival of Snackery: Diaries 2003-2020 by David Sedaris is basically what you’d expect from the subtitle and if you’re familiar with the author. It’s really just random collection of things seen or thought by the author over 17 years. The title doesn’t become clear until March 2013 and that’s never explained. But that’s probably the point, to make you try to reason it out, if there is actual meaning or if Sedaris just thought it sounded cool. It reads kind of like a stand-up […]

It might be time for a break

Black Clover vols. 26-27 by Yuki Tabata

February 6, 2022 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

So I think I might be getting to a moment when I need to step away from the action-adventure manga. I spent most of volume 26 of Black Clover being annoyed at how cliched everything seemed. Basically the whole storyline for the whole volume was people yelling cliches like “We are absolutely going to win for the sake of our truly kind friend!” and “Unless you take me down, they’ll keep right on coming back! Are you into this now, {character name}?” “You are absolutely….GOING […]
