Was I Supposed to Learn Something???

The Nobodies by Liza Palmer

August 2, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. Oof. I don’t know what to say. I think this book was supposed to be about the death or journalism and impostor syndrome. However, it jumped all around and I maybe went am I supposed to care about this or no? And then it had a weird ending and then love and I maybe went ah well at least I am done. I loved so many of Liza […]

Retelling of the 12 Dancing Princesses

House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig

August 2, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review.  So this was really good. I like a good retelling and Craig does a great job with “The Twelve Dancing Princesses” by the Brothers Grimm. We follow the main character Annaleigh who is intent on figuring out if her older sister was murdered. From there we have Craig work in Gothic elements as well as some pretty dark horror elements as well. I loved the world building and would […]

Flames On the Side of My Face

One Day in December by Josie Silver

July 28, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Apologies all. I realized after the fact that I forgot to publish here. I was so ticked off at this poor attempt of a book on Friday I just posted to Booklikes and Goodreads. My review count should now be accurate. Look you saw my updates. You know what’s coming. I don’t have much to say except this is a terrible book masquerading a romance. It’s bad enough the plot is terrible, but add in no character development of the two leads and the writing […]

Here Comes the Bride?

The Bride Test by Helen Hoang

July 28, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Wow. So to keep this short since I am tired and hungry going to say that everything worked for me except I thought that someone should have explained Khai’s autism to Esme a lot better than they did. I also thought the harebrained scheme his brother cooked up was ridiculous and was honestly one of the things that took me right out of the book. I did think that Hoang still does a great job with love scenes and sexual tension. I loved our quick […]

Final Book in Tillman Series Swings Back From Second Book Syndrome

The Rosie Result by Graeme Simsion

July 28, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Here’s a link to my second review in this series: The Rosie Effect. I flat out disliked the second book and was flabbergasted that Simsion changed things up to having Rosie and Don move to New York and having Don and Rosie act of character. Thank goodness that is all fixed in the third book with us following Don and Rosie eleven years after the birth of their son Hudson. Simsion also kept force fitting in the character of Gene (who I disliked) and we find […]

Great Historical Romance That Has Me Wanting to Read More About the Servant Class in England

Listen to the Moon by Rose Lerner

July 28, 2019 by Classic 4 Comments

So this was a romance buddy read with WhiskeyintheJar/Kyraryker and Sam (AMNReader). The three of us I think all really enjoyed this though Sam is still finishing up. I really loved the entire plot (a marriage of convenience) with heat. The two main characters, Sukey and John were great and I loved how they did things differently though they were both part of the servant class. The sex scenes were highly explicit, but very very hot, I loved them and liked that we actually had these two trying […]
