Interesting Look at Christie During Her Travels with First Husband

The Grand Tour: Around the World with the Queen of Mystery by Agatha Christie

August 8, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

So not too much to say here. I really enjoyed reading this as we follow Christie as she travels around the world. We get to see her real life letters, photos, and other things that were kept that showcased her travels from South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Honolulu, Canada, and then back to England. The main reason why I gave this just four stars though is that this just doesn’t have a lot of great insight I think into Christie. We see letters she wrote […]

Book Takes Too Long To Get to the Point

Recursion by Blake Crouch

August 8, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

So at this point I cannot give this one more than three stars. The main reason is that I disliked a good 50 percent of this book. I kept going with it hoping it would pay off, but it took too long to get there. I think dividing up the POVs is what made it confusing. I get why Crouch did it (to make the reveal cooler) but geez it took forever and I was so confused I went back to the beginning to make […]

Very Short Story That I Wish Had Been Longer

Playing House by Ruby Lang

August 2, 2019 by Classic 2 Comments

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. So this one was a very short book but I loved the characters that were introduced, Oliver Huang and  Fay Liu. I just thought that the book should have been longer since you don’t get a lot of time to see fully developed characters. We had a lot going on with both Oliver and Fay and think that it would have been a more cohesive book if we […]

Not Very Good

The Night Tiger by Yangsze Choo

August 2, 2019 by Classic 2 Comments

I don’t know what else to say about this book besides I didn’t enjoy it. The dual POVs didn’t help and the whole thing with Jin Li and who she really loved grossed me out. Sorry, I just thought that the whole book was a mess and I still don’t understand everything that was going on. “The Night Tiger” follows Jin Li who is working at a dance hall trying to earn money to pay down her mother’s gambling debts. We have her recounting her […]

Sing!

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

August 2, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Seriously I got nothing to say that probably has not been said by thousands of people before me who finished this fantastic book. Owens hit on something here that I think a lot of readers long for. A very developed character and plot with some mystery elements in it with a totally blindsided ending that I didn’t see coming. I loved this whole thing. I think we will be talking about “Where the Crawdads Sing” for decades. “Where the Crawdads Sing” follows a 6 year […]

I Can’t

Gossip Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar

August 2, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

This is a terrible book that is making my brain leak. I used to watch this show growing up and was always Team Blair. That said, the source material is awful and I can’t force my eyes to sit through this. My brain at one point I think tried to punch my skull to let me know that if I didn’t’ change to a different book I was not going to like the consequences. I DNFed “Gossip Girl” at 25 percent. At this point if […]
