Liz Talbot Regroups

Lowcountry Boomerang by Susan M. Boyer

November 26, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Well “Lowcountry Boomerang” was a really great installment into the life and work of private investigator Liz Talbot. Happily married to Nate, and running their PI agency. The eighth installment has the usual, a curious murder case, Colleen still the island protector and keeping an eye out for Liz and Nate. And Liz’s father and his dog doing something ridiculous. I really needed a comfy book this weekend, and this one fired on all cylinders for me. I also like that for once, Boyer seems […]

4.5 Stars for Audio and 3 Stars for Actual Story

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

November 26, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

So, I have to say that all in all, I really enjoyed “Daisy Jones & The Six.” I am so glad many of my friends suggested I listen to this via an audiobook. I can definitely understand why many readers DNFed this book though. The interview style format would be a much to try to read. Same reason I gave up trying to read “War World Z” that’s another book you have to experience by audio. The voice actors in this one killed it, and […]

What a Wonderful Collection of Essays

The Witches Are Coming by Lindy West

November 22, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Well I don’t know how to talk about this collection of essays by Lindy West. She does a great job of discussing and analyzing key moments over the past couple of years (the election of Donald Trump, the rise of the left, feminism, etc.) She also manages to make you laugh and at times want to throw hands at people because of the things that are going on and how many people seem to be turning a blind eye to things. Since this is an […]

Behind the Scenes Look at a Presidential Election via Prey

Extreme Prey by John Sandford

November 22, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

I think that this was one of the strongest offerings in the Prey series. I still could not give it five stars though since there seems to be some ridiculousness with Lucas and his next job I think will get discussed further in the next book. At this point, they should have just retired Lucas and switched to someone else to focus on in this series. How he is running around in his late 50s, I think is a question. I did like the different […]

Great Short Story Involving Children’s Books

The Book Thing by Laura Lippman

November 22, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Well this wasn’t a bad short story involving Tess. I liked the overall message about the importance of books, but think at times that Lippman via Tess was throwing way too much out there about how readers that use e-book readers, and or bookstores to help them find books as being less than other readers was a bit much. I definitely get the pangs one gets when small bookstores and the like close. There was a used bookstore up the street from me that closed […]

Spirit of Christmas Past

O is for Outlaw by Sue Grafton

November 22, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

This book was a great look into Kinsey’s past. We have heard offhand via the books that Kinsey was married twice. Her first marriage was to an ex-cop Mickey Macgruder and we know that Kinsey and he parted on bad terms. This book gives us even more information than what we were given before. Mickey was accused of murder and Kinsey bounced. She never talked to Mickey again after the divorce, but you start to see some glimmers in the man which probably is what […]
