Here’s Looking at You

Here's Looking at You by Mhairi McFarlane

December 26, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

So this was very cute and also sad at parts. I loved how McFarlane pretty much has you disliking the hero for a good portion of this book (who wouldn’t?) before allowing him to grow on you as he did the heroine. I thought the book was very good at showing how damaging school can be to those who were and are bullied. I felt for Anna so much. And I have to say that Anna and her relationship with her sister was heart-warming. I […]

Who’s That Girl

Who's That Girl by Mhairi McFarlane

December 23, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

This was a strong 3.5 star read I rounded up to 4 stars. Biggest issue is that some characters read like cliches (Louis) and also Edie was a hot mess. It’s fine if you are a hot mess, but she stayed a hot mess for a good majority of the book. Her being angry that an A-list star wasn’t trying to get with her was just exhausting at some point. I thought parts of the book were funny and some sad (her discussing what happened […]

You Had Me at Hello

You Had Me at Hello by Mhairi McFarlane

December 23, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

I feel bad for saying this, but this is one of my least favorite books by McFarlane. I think the biggest problem I have is that the heroine (Rachel) is hoping for emotional cheating or something to happen with the hero (Ben) who we go into knowing is married. I just didn’t like her and thought Ben read her very well at the end. She was and still is a mess. I think the Happily Ever After (HEA) we get was 100 percent not earned. […]

Parable of the Sower-Graphic Novel

Parable of the Sower by Damien Duffy

December 20, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. So the thing is this is my least favorite of Butler’s works. The story had a lot of plot holes that the graphic novel of course cannot and does not fix. Taking place in 2025, we follow the character of Lauren Olamina and her family that are living in what remains of areas around Los Angeles. Told in the first person, we get Lauren’s “insights” into her family, […]

Just As You Are

Just As You Are by Kate Mathieson

December 20, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. Well that was a slog and a half. Fair warning, the book takes a while to get going. I started to lose interest after the first sex scene and my interest dwindled from there. There are some bright parts of the book though (hence the 3 stars) but not enough to actually get me that invested in reading something from this author again anytime soon. Not a bad […]

If I Never Met You

If I Never Met You by Mhairi McFarlane

December 20, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. Trying to get back into reviews, so this is going to be short and sweet. I really loved the main character of Laurie. Mhairi McFarlane did a great job of creating a mixed race romantic heroine and her dealing with the micro and macro-aggression of being a woman of color living in Britain. Laurie though really touched me when you see that she is trying to take the […]
