all about love

all about love by bell hooks

February 7, 2022 by Classic 2 Comments

I loved these essays by bell hooks. She passed away last year and I am sad to say that this is my first reading of her works. I have heard of her, and read different pieces of her writing before, but never sat down and read one of her collections. The anthropologist in me loves how she brings up the different aspects of love and ties it into different things in our lives and often shows us that we have gotten here by the environment […]

The Regatta Mystery and Other Stories…

The Regatta Mystery and Other Stories... by Agatha Christie

February 7, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

I liked this collection though some of the stories I read in different anthologies or Kindle singles. The only ones totally new to me were the Parker Pyne stories. Per usual, since this is a collection of short stories, I gave my overall rating (5) first and then you can read below on the individual ratings for each story. The Regatta Mystery (4.5 stars)-This story follows a young man being who fears that many believe that he stole a priceless diamond. He goes to Mr. […]

Stars Over Alaska

Stars Over Alaska by Jennifer Snow

February 7, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

That’s it. I probably need to stop reading this series. The tropes that Snow indulges in are the worst ones for me to read about in romance books. I hate the dead best friend/brother/sister to loves trope. Just no. Stop it. And I absolutely hate the exboyfriend/girlfriend to lovers trope. My sister would kill me dead for dating and ex and vice versa. The books either have highly unrealistic reactions to said dating, or people are super okay about it. Stars Over Alaska indulges in […]

Deconstructed

Deconstructed by Liz Talley

February 7, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

I don’t know what else to say besides this was bad. Really bad. I wanted to like it since I did like the one lead, but the book just dragged on forever and I ceased to care about Cricket or Ruby. Towards the 80 percent mark I started to skim because I was just getting fed up at how boring and tedious the book had become. I think the book could have been stronger if we just followed Cricket honestly. Going back and forth between […]

The Thirteen Problems

The Thirteen Problems by Agatha Christie

February 2, 2022 by Classic 2 Comments

February 2, 2022: I noticed on Goodreads there’s a link to a supposedly free Kindle version of this book. It does not take you to it but to some random ghost story by someone I have never heard of. Also my own library does not have this one in stock. I bought this paperback version back in 2019 in order to complete my Miss Marple reads. Of course I read this one towards the end of my reading of the series and am glad now […]

The Murder at the Vicarage

The Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie

February 1, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

February 1, 2022: So I started this last night and fell asleep on it. Probably due to the sugar high I had (I ate a whole box of girl scout cookies, I regret nothing. I just finished this up today since I have been waiting on my boss to finally get back to me on something I sent him to review last week. I honestly will say that this one goes back to being a 4 star read for me instead of the initial 5 […]
