The Do-Over

The Do-Over by Beth Turner

February 16, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. I don’t even know what to say about this one. I saw that I am not an outlier though on Goodreads. I wanted to like this one, but I could not get into the main character (McKenna) at all. There’s a lot going on with this character and she doesn’t look the greatest through this whole book. It also didn’t help that once again we have people acting […]

The Wake

The Wake by Neil Gaiman

February 15, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Well that was well done. We also got some nice closure on some things and of course a tale or two to round things out. “The Wake” follows Dream’s family as they prepare to say goodbye along with others. I thought this was great. Gaiman does a great job and has shown us before that the Endless can often “die” and another form of them comes about. We know that the Despair we have known in this series, was not the first, and even know […]

The Kindly Ones

The Kindly Ones by Neil Gaiman

February 15, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Well we know that this one was a long time coming. We got hints of this in the last couple of the graphic novels. We follow Dream to the end. I loved how this was set-up and how Gaiman ended things. The next volume was very good and it answered some questions I had about a lot of things that were still unclear (who was Dream’s last lover, why was Daniel so important, what happens to the Endless as time marches on, etc.) “The Kindly […]

Klara and the Sun

Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro

February 14, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

DNF at 15 percent. I tried you guys. I tried so hard. But after sitting in the house and watching the snowflakes on Sunday, I just had to give this one up at 15 percent. I know I should be enthralled by this, but I was so bored, and kept getting distracted. I feel like I should be tossed in book jail for not finishing this one and not enjoying it. “Klara and the Sun” follows an artificial intelligence (Klara) who is an Artificial Friend. […]

The Murder on the Links

The Murder on the Links by Agatha Christie

February 14, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

February 14, 2022: So this re-read I had to downgrade by a star. I think that just compared to the other novels/short stories in Christie’s series starring Poirot, this one doesn’t really rate as much. Also Hastings worked my nerves (a lot) in this one. I maybe muttered good grief a few times while reading. Hastings and his constant need to fall in love with women with red hair just….he’s a mess. Also, the story (murder) seems very convoluted this time through. People disappearing, and […]

World’s End

World's End by Neil Gaiman

February 14, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

This was by no means bad, (I gave it 4 stars) but compared to the other volumes it just felt like it was missing something. The stories were all over the place and some of the text was too hard for me to read. I gave up on a few panels and just focused on the illustrations. “World’s End” follows a pair of colleagues (Brant and Charlene) who get in a car accident on their way to Chicago. Finding themselves in the middle of a […]
