Other Terrors

Other Terrors by Vince A. Liaguno

June 27, 2022 by Classic 4 Comments

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. Wow. What a gangbuster list of horror stories. I don’t think I disliked a one of them except for that poem that was like a half a page and just made me go huh. But you all know that most poems I read that are horror (usually written by Stephen King or Neil Gaiman) are like my least favorite things. The first story is shockingly a poem (leave […]

The Lilac Bus

The Lilac Bus by Maeve Binchy

June 27, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Re-read June 27, 2022: I haven’t been doing too much but laying in bed and forcing myself to eat food with no taste for about a week now. I got to this one last night and finished it up today though. I also finished a horror book I really enjoyed, so that’s three books down after what felt like an endless year. “The Lilac Bus” is always great to re-read. You in essence get a lot of short stories tied around 8 people in the […]

The Copper Beech

The Copper Beech by Maeve Binchy

June 27, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Re-read June 27, 2022: I just needed a book taking place in a different time and place right now. Though this book starts off in the 1950s and ends around 1971 or so, it still brought me some comfort. Maybe because Binchy really does lay out how hard it was for women in Ireland in that time and place and even mentions a few times how the inhabitants of Shancarring were poor and how many women just had too many children they were just kind […]

The Drowning Kind

The Drowning Kind by Jennifer McMahon

June 24, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

I don’t get why so many people hated this ending. I thought it was true to the book and for once you didn’t have an author shy away from things. I will say one thing though, I don’t think it’s the “true” ending. I think it’s the ending that Jax hopes for in the end. I thought this was a great horror novel and loved us going back and forth from the present with Jax to the past with her great grandmother Ethel. I also […]

Worn Out Wife Seeks New Life

Worn Out Wife Seeks New Life by Carmen Reid

June 24, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

It gets two stars because it started off so well. And then it went really downhill. I liked Tess a lot and thought River was a user honestly. I didn’t like her, not even when we get to the end of the book. I think what got me is that the swap was really unfair. River got a whole very nice house, fully stocked, with Tess’s husband listening to her going on and on about herself. Tess had to clean up River’s place for like […]

My Evil Mother

My Evil Mother by Margaret Atwood

June 24, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

This was a great short story by Margaret Atwood. I haven’t been able to get into some of her stuff like “The Heart Goes Last” but this was wonderful. It’s honestly a great short story showing how much a mother did love her daughter, and how much though a daughter did not understand her mother, she realizes in the end how much she was loved. Mixed in was some fantasy elements which you have to figure out where real or not real.
