Don’t Look Now & Other Stories

Don't Look Now & Other Stories by Daphne du Maurier

October 21, 2022 by Classic 2 Comments

I bought this collection a few months back and then never got around to finishing it until now. Apparently insomnia has claimed me again, and I finally finished some books and put some others on the DNF list. Per usual, here are my ratings for each story in the collection. Overall I gave this 4 stars since some of the stories were baffling to me. I don’t know what message I was supposed to be getting. “Don’t Look Now” (5 stars)-John and Laura are a […]

The Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities: New Stories about Mythic Heroes

The Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities: New Stories about Mythic Heroes by Rick Riordan

Did Not Finish-10 percent Totally my fault on this one. I didn’t realize that most of these are stories about characters in prior books that have been published. I was totally lost in the first story and the fact that characters were going to different universes where they were stealing chickens. Yeah, that was something I read. I just decided to give it up because life is too short to be struggling with a book.

I honestly don’t know what day it is right now. I am trying to get used to my new schedule and it feels like I keep going days without checking out my reviews, my friends review, or even wanting to post reviews of my own. I decided to do my best to keep up for now, and see how I feel in the New Year though. I decided to go on reading spree of the next trance of In Death books because I just enjoyed […]

Iona Iverson’s Rules for Commuting

Iona Iverson's Rules for Commuting by Clare Pooley

October 16, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

I really really enjoyed this. I laughed out loud a few times and was honestly surprised by the direction of some of the characters’ stories in this one. I have to say though, read this one if you feel a bit down in the dumps, it does give you hope that everyone you meet can’t be all that bad. I loved the character of Iona and the others too. Piers (I hate that name) was at first blush, not awesome, but he grew on me. […]

Your Guide to Not Getting Murdered in a Quaint English Village

Your Guide to Not Getting Murdered in a Quaint English Village by Maureen Johnson

October 16, 2022 by Classic 2 Comments

I laughed so hard reading this. The illustrations and mini quizzes are top notch. And honestly, you would think after watching Vera, Midsomer Murders, etc. I would be less likely to traipse into a quaint English village, but nope, still want to. I love how this book broke things up into things such as village (church, graveyard, pub, etc.) the villagers (the vicar) and locations like the antique shop which is never open. Also the vicar is apparently the most murderous of the villagers, so […]

The Perfect Date

The Perfect Date by R.L. Stine

October 16, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Honestly this ending was top-notch. Reminds me a bit of Tales from the Crypt honestly. I was not expecting it and I thought it was cleverly done. Sometimes i forget that R.L. Stine besides doing tons of teen horror, liked to play around with twist endings. Some of his Fear Street books did not end on a “happy” note. I liked the characters in this one and I was wrong about who the mysterious girl was and how she came about.
