The Murderbot Diaries Vol. 2

The Murderbot Diaries Vol. 2 by Martha Wells

May 30, 2025 by Classic 2 Comments

Wow. Again the two novellas I read were really good, no notes, five stars for both of them. I got asked about my book last night (I was out eating dinner solo) and I think I maybe got a former librarian to give this series a try. I love meeting book lovers out in the wild. Rogue Protocol-I will just say this ending gutted me, but I loved everything that lead up to it. We have Murderbot focusing on gathering evidence against GrayCris Corporation and […]

Something Cheeky by Thien-Kim Lam

Something Cheeky by Thien-Kim Lam

I really loved this installment by Thien-Kim Lam. The main reason why I gave it four stars though is that the romance between the two leads at times wasn’t the main focus. I think there was a lot of plot stories that kept derailing the main story of Zoe and Derek. Also, I was so excited to read a book starring a heroine that is a demisexual. It just didn’t shine through at all in this story. It is said as a throwaway by another […]

Hidden Nature by Nora Roberts

Hidden Nature by Nora Roberts

May 26, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please not that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. Wow. I got nothing. This was pretty awful. I don’t even know what the point of this one was. It was so lackluster. Things happen, serial killers run about Maryland, and then more things happen. The book ends. I honestly wish that Roberts would just write a straight up thriller and ditch the romance. You can see her heart is not in it much anymore. Her latest romantic […]

The Murderbot Diaries Vol. 1 by Martha Wells

The Murderbot Diaries Vol. 1 by Martha Wells

Well shit, I am all in. This was really good. People who have followed my reviews for a while know that I am a little…iffy on space opera books since I have not had a great time with them in the past. However, I am glad that I let a twee indie book seller push me on to “The Murderbot Diaries.” They were shocked I had never heard of the series and said well everyone is into them now cause of the series…so you all […]

Stag Dance by Torrey Peters

Stag Dance by Torrey Peters

May 23, 2025 by Classic 2 Comments

I thought this was a great collection. I thought the first story was great with a  sci-fi/speculative fiction bent, and the rest were interesting/great, but I think the one story entitled “Stag Dance” just went on a bit too long. It dragged down the rest of the collection. Be warned that there’s a graphic depiction of animal death in “The Chaser.” “Infect Your Friends and Loved Ones” (5 stars)-This was a great start to the collection. We hear about something called The Rift Wars where […]

Lucky Tomorrow by Deborah Jiang-Stein

Lucky Tomorrow by Deborah Jiang-Stein

May 20, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. This is a collection of short stories by Deborah Jiang-Stein. The main reason why I just gave the overall collection 5 stars was that although it took me a bit to get used to how she curated this collection, it started to resonate with me after a while. We follow a “main” character so to speak, but some of the other stories were so short that I didn’t […]
