A Look At Three Women’s Lives Over Six Months

The Happiness Project by Pippa James

January 25, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that this book will be released on February 12, 2019. Also note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. I have to say that I dithered on a rating for this one. I think it would have been five stars if we actually followed the three women (Alison, Frankie, and Kate) for the whole year. They make resolutions for New Year and we stop in March/April timeframe. Also Alison’s storyline felt like something was missing. […]

DNF at 25 Percent- A Map of Days is Mind-Numbing

A Map of Days by Ransom Riggs

January 25, 2019 by Classic 2 Comments

Sigh. I just DNFed this at 25 percent. I wasn’t enjoying the children in this one and following Jacob as he is crowned “The One” through a fourth book didn’t sound like a good time to me. I think that the last book ended perfectly and had the right message that life isn’t fair. I thought it had a good logic behind Jacob following in his grandfather’s steps with him not being able to say with the people he loved. I thought it was up […]

Sequel to Watership Down Does Not Quite Live Up to First Book

Tales from Watership Down by Richard Adams

January 25, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

This was an enjoyable collection of short stories about the rabbits of Watership Down. We get to read about what they were up to before the end of the first book which caused me no end of tears. I honestly have to say that reading about  El-ahrairah in the first story was fine, but after that I found myself getting bored. The book didn’t pick up for me until we were following Hazel, Fiver, and the others who were setting into Watership Down. I do think […]

Great Continuation of Davenport

Naked Prey by John Sandford

January 25, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Well we have Lucas fairly happy and settled in this one with a new wife and baby. However, Lucas is feeling restless since he doesn’t have anything big to work on. Apparently thinking it up causes something ugly this way to come and Lucas is quickly sent off to figure out if a black man and white woman being hung together is a lynching or something else. I think Sandford did well in this one with giving you a clue to who is linked to […]

Book Goes Off Rails at 50 Percent Mark

Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman

January 25, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

This book was so weird. I think it could have worked without the ending no one asked for and didn’t make a lot of sense. Especially because Steadman didn’t set it up to really work. Also going to have to say it. Erin was being an idiot. I didn’t root for her since you know what she and her husband Mark were up to was just what I called the “worst idea ever.” “Something in the Water” is told from the first person POV of […]

Way Too Many POVs and Some Issues Not Addressed

What Remains True by Janis Thomas

January 25, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

There was way too much going on in this one. We had 7 POVs and we barely stay with anyone long enough to even get settled in to what is going on. I think the author did this in order to get to the ending that we did that was just confusing and not heart-warming to me. This book was just a mess to me. “What Remains True” follows the Davenport family a month after the family has lost their young son (Jonah). The family […]
