Classic's Reviews:

It’s Written in the Stars

Star-Crossed by Minnie Darke

April 7, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. This book will be released on May 21, 2019.  Younger me would have been all over this book. A book about how your astrology sign rules you life? I loved reading all of that stuff and figuring out what aspects of being an Aquarius I had. My friends and I all loved tarot cards and fortune tellers. Heck, I had a best friend who would go on about […]

Not a Great Retelling of Alice

Ever Alice by H.J. Ramsay

April 7, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. This book will be released on August 1, 2019.  Well not too much to say here besides the fact I didn’t enjoy reading this one. I am always down for a fresh take on a retelling of a classic fairy tale, but Ramsay didn’t do a good job of developing Alice or the Queen of Hearts. The flow of the book was not very good and I thought […]

Did Not Heart as Much as The Hate U Give

On the Come Up by Angie Thomas

April 7, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Well, though I did enjoy this book, I didn’t love it as much as The Hate U Give. I could not help making comparisons between Starr and Bri (the main character in this one) and also about the story-lines. I think in the end that Bri was more frustrating to me as a reader. She really doesn’t listen to anyone, though in the end that causes her to forge her own path that can lift her family up out of poverty. However, how realistic is […]

Five Stars, But Not a Favorite

Maybe This Time by Jill Mansell

March 29, 2019 by Classic 2 Comments

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. This book will be released on June 4, 2019.  So though I really enjoyed this book, the main reason why I didn’t give it a favorite designation was honestly because I thought that Mansell should have Mimi with someone else that was introduced in the book. I thought all of the story-lines were very good and that Mansell did a good job of showcasing all of the stories […]

Hot Mess #19

Wicked Prey by John Sandford

March 29, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

I don’t even know what to say. You have Lucas’s ward (Letty) trying to justifying killing someone because if she does it that means Lucas won’t be involved with it. It makes zero sense and it turned me off the character. She also has a couple of disgusting comments about using people that made me dance the whole way towards she’s a psychopath. Between that story-line and the other one Sandford was too all over the place in this one. I didn’t care about the […]

Do Not Suffer a Witch to Live

The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden

March 29, 2019 by Classic 2 Comments

Wow. Just wow. I was breathless and in tears within minutes of starting book #3 (have tissues near by) and was full of anger through most of the book. I can honestly say make sure you have this one ready to go after finishing book #2. Vasya comes into her own in this one and we are given a glimpse into a possible future. The book moves back and forth between Sasha and then Vasya in this one. My only complaint is I wanted more […]
