First Part Setting the Two Main Characters Was Great, Rest of Book Didn’t Work

The Silent Wife by A.S.A. Harrison

June 14, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Well not too much to say about this one besides it was ultimately a disappointment. I thought I was going to get into a psychological thriller about tihe ins and outs of a marriage. I think in the end I didn’t like this book because I didn’t have sympathy for “the silent wife” or Jodi. She just passively lets everything happen to her and she lashes out here and there, but not in a big way. And the ending left everything up in the air. […]

Wonderful Merge of YA, Fantasy, & Horror

The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly

June 7, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

I don’t even know what to say. This book will break your heart, make you shudder in fright, and have you widening your eyes over how Connolly changes up some of our favorite fairy tales and myths. I thought this book was great from beginning to end and I worried throughout about would happen to David (our young protagonist). The book’s writing and flow were exceptional though in the end I wanted more. It felt like the book ended too soon. “The Book of Lost […]

Fantastic Follow up to Book One!

Payment in Blood by Elizabeth George

June 7, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

I really don’t have much to say except this one was so ridiculously good! I loved everything about the case that Lynley and Havers are called into look at. First, because it actually showed that Lynley had flaws. Two, because it showed Lynley that he was blind to something that was in his face for a long time. Third, because in the end the cases that Lynley and Havers got set on were not connected the way that they and even I as a reader […]

Earlier Dean Koontz with a Pseudonym Doesn’t Work

Icebound by Dean Koontz

June 7, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

So I found this book on my shelf and I don’t remember it at all. I either DNFed this thing or just erased the memory from my head because it was awful. At times I kept getting a case of deja vu, though now I realize it’s because I was mis-remembering this book along with Dan Brown’s “Deception Point.” That’s another terrible book that I don’t even want to get into right now. Look this is going to be short (for me). This book was […]

What is Addiction?

Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes

June 7, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

I definitely liked “Rachel’s Holiday” a lot more than “Watermelon.” Maybe because this one more expressly shows the flaws in the Walsh family matriarch and father. Also, I still disliked Helen in this one too. Anna seems mostly harmless and cares. We also get to see/hear more about Maggie(one of the 5 sisters). I felt sorry for Rachel who is in the midst of addiction and doesn’t even want to admit what has been going on with her. And unlike with Claire in the last […]

Watermelon or Doormat? You Decide

Watermelon by Marian Keyes

June 7, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

So I have all of the Walsh Family books in paperback. I haven’t read them in years, but decided to take the first two for a whirl this weekend. And now I wonder if I read this years ago and liked Claire or what? Cause Claire drives me a bit insane in this book. And when you read about how she changes over the course of the series, she ends up being the Walsh sister I dislike the most (tied with Helen and her book, […]
